ROFL. A disgrace? The Larry O'Brien trophy's one of the least prestigious in all of sports. No1 gives a crap about touching the actual trophy. It doesn't have the recognition of something like the Stanley Cup. The NBA's all about the custom championship rings!
Hockey has been the least popular sport of the Big 4 in North America for the past 15 years or so. Also the only sport where they allow you to throw down to increase the popularity.

I'm not talking about what it means to win. Nor the popularity of the respective sports. I'm talking about the physical trophies. The Larry OBrien trophy isn't exactly the most recognizable.

I see where dude is coming from but it isn't that serious. Dude is talking like cats have lost their lives battling for the trophy.
I can DEFINITELY see if you felt like that regarding the Purple Heart or the Medal of Honor, but this is a GAME that people PLAY. This ain't Gettysburg fam.

aside from that if i was dirk and i lost the finals, i would be annoyed when i looked back and seen those commericals of me holding the trophy i never really won.

imagine if the chicago cubs made the mlb playoffs and we saw a commerical with whoever the best player on their team currently is, holding and touching the world series trophy.   dudes haven't won a title in 103 years yet their best player would be holding the trophy without them actually winning it.

This isn't Lord Of the Rings. It's people touching a dead piece of metal. Chill out, it's not like they actually become champions by touching it... Or that it has some magic power that is transferred to those who touch it, and only those who win the championship get that privilege.

Oh noez look, David Letterman is an NBA champion now:

And I guess this is way less controversial than seeing a truly all-time great player touch it:

Ehh some people just wont get it. I'm with you OP.

It's not THAT serious, but it's definitely a gripe of mine.

Dumb statement.  You make it seem like fighting is a gimmick.  !!++ has been around since the inception of the sport.  The shootout was added (which is idiotic) to increase the popularity post-lockout.
