NBA switching rims.....SMH

Those guys at the NBA Offices seem bored.

once scoring takes a dip and players start complainin, Stern will change it back just like the leather ball.

It's not really a double rim. You can see that in this picture:

The second smaller 'rim' is just holding the net cord in place. I don't think it will do anything to the 'feel' of the rim - it's thespring mechanism that does that.

Buried right at the bottom of the uniwatch article was this:

And just to bring things full circle, here's something else about that new rim: The new version has breakaway functionality on the sides, instead of just on the front. Watch for it on dunks coming from the sides of the basket.

I was wondering why the box for the spring mechanism looked different - it looks like it can also bend down to the side. Weird.

dude....lebron has to be mad at this crap...i like double rims but i hate them at the same time....so frustrating...

From the looks of it, since its not the typical double-rim, I don't see it making a huge difference. Still, I don't see why it was necessary. I couldbe wrong, but I don't remember a lot of rims getting broke/bent over the last few seasons.

i'm sure midway through the season the players will complain and they'll back to the original rims....basically w.e happened to that new nba ball

Let's add a couple of square feet to the court while we're at it. Oh, and the shape of the back board.

SMH.

I think college rims have been able to bend to the side for years. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

to me it looks like a good fix..

they eliminated the hoops for the net, which stuck out, and seemed to have posed a problem with players fingers in the past. now its like a shoe, with the rimstaying consistently round without anything protruding from it.

plus it looks like an upgraded breakaway box in the back.

It's not really a double rim but son of a **!*# did I hate playing on those in junior high and high school. It got to the point where I was just driving tothe hoop the whole game
