NEED HELP ASAP! Car issues...

Straight to the point, My 07 Impala LT won't start.. When I try to use my remote start it cut on for a few seconds, but it shut off, so I went in my car and I put my key in the ignition and all my lights and so forth came on, but not my engine. Do you guys think it's the starter? Everything else came on (Back lights on dash, radio, and etc.). If you guys know, how much does it cost? Thanks a lot..

i dont think it is your starter. if it was when you turn the key nothing would come on and you would just hear metal clicking. this happened to me a few months ago

i dont know how to edit my post but i meant to add you probably just need a new battery. try getting somebody to jump the car for you and go to costco to get a new battery. they are cheaper there

It's probably is the starter. If everything is turning on and stays on, then that means the battery is providing power. I don't know if those came in a manual verision, but if it is, you can push start it (be careful tho) and it'll turn on. 

Before you do anything tho, take the battery to autozone and have them test it. Although everything is turning on, the battery could still be weak and not sending enough power to start a car.

Autozone will also charge the battery for you.

if it clicks then it's more than likely the starter or just the solenoid.

Your battery is not dead..because your lights and everything else work fine..I want to say its your starter..but everything started up..

So it got to be your engine..?

I see your problem right thurr your problem is you gots a Chevy ...... Ford would never do that ....... but yeah check battery even dough your lights and all that crap turns on it just doesn't have enough juice to start up. Just jump start it and you should be good let your alternator kick in and charge the battery right quick. Worst case scenario buy a new battery for $80

From his descrpiption his battery is failing . Just because lights work doesn't mean the battery is good . It just doesn't have enough juice to turn the ignition on . Jump start that *** and you should be good my friend but either charge the battery or replace it before it leaves Yoy stranded out there with some fine honey in the middle of no where

If im understanding you correctly in that your car is turning on then immediately shutting off it sounds possibly like a fuel volume/pressure issue.

Edit: Nvm You say afterward you weren't about to turn the engine over..do you hear it cranking at all? Is it slower than normal?

I hear the clicks and everything works, but the engine just doesn't come on.. So I guess it is the starter.. DO you guys know how much it cost to get a new starter?

I had the same problem as you OP i thought it was the starter on my civic, but it was actually the battery. The battery is not giving enough juice to your alternator so you go ahead and replace the battery and you should be good. I bought a 3-year Gold battery from Autozone and i only had for like about 6-7 months but since it was still under warranty they replaced it for free

it might just be the starter solenoid, make sure so that you don't have to spend more $$ than you have to.

Just because the lights come on doesn't mean the battery has a high enough charge to start the car. The first thing id do is get the battery tested to verify its not the culprit(low charge,bad cell) and go from there. BTW how do the terminals look? Is there any acid buildup on them? From the sound of it, sounds like a low charged battery. Start of by trying to jump the battery and see if it turns over. Next thing, check if your not out of gas. A starter is def a possible option, but eliminate all options that are cheap before jumping into something "expensive"

This happened to my car. My radio, tv, headlights, lights inside the car were working. I thought it was starter as well but it was the battery just didn't have enough juice to start the car. Also, if it was starter I don't think the car would start at all. Get the battery checked out before you do anything else broski and if it is DO NOT go with a auto zone or pep boys battery .. make sure you get it from the dealer. I made that mistake ended up buying a battery from the dealer after I got stranded multiple times.

What i bolded pretty much tells me the starter is NOT the problem. The starter is basically something that only turns your car on. Once it turns the car on, it disengages and doesnt do anything anymore. So the fact that your car died tells me its either a low voltage battery, or a possible security system issue..

Try this, put your key in the ignition, and turn it to the point where you can activate your radio and lights. Then try using your remote start. If it turns on, it might be a security issue..

If it doesnt work, try cranking it. Does it make any sounds?

Hit your starter gently with a hammer or rubber mallet. It'll fix it temporarily. Promise.

Here is the update, my car got towed to the GM dealer I normally get it serviced at, so they called me and told me that my battery was shot, so now I'm waiting for them to call me back and let me know the full status.. It's weird because my lights and all that stuff came on, but this morning my battery got shot.. Any info on this?

Like I said and others who mention about "replacing the battery" its was the battery. Your battery just didn't have enough energy to start up the engine components like the stater and alternator. Its gonna have some juice for the lights and radio, but not engine components. Something in your car is taking energy from the battery, so you need to figure out what it is.

Sound exactly like a dead battery. Hope you under warranty though, dealer tend to seek problems with your car in order to make money. It often a good idea to have a second opinion with mechanics. If it's just a battery take it to AutoZone or something get a battery under warranty (good deal because every battery after that get a major discount if you trade the old one in)

Otherwise weigh you options but please do yourself a favor and get second opinions. I can't stress that enough. I went into a dealer for a oil change and walked out thinking my car what about to fall apart with all the estimates and ish they gave. Went to my mechanic, dude saw only two things and replaced/fixed both for a fraction of the dealer's price.

Update, after all, it was the battery and I ended up getting the battery from GM for $140.. So all of this is now over.. Thank god..
