New camera time...

So I went to a rave last weekend, my buddy forgot to lock the car after he went out to grab some vodka, and his sister's as well as my camera were stolen.

I had a Sony Cybershot, thinking it's time to upgrade to something a little more high quality...looking for suggestions.

Price Range: $400ish.

Must have video.

Does it have to have HD video? If not I say check out the Canon Powershot S90.

hands down the best point & shoot out there (especially for night shots).. better than Cannon IMO

I agree on getting this camera for portability, build and solid pictures but it doesn't shoot too well at night (w/ no flash) and doesn't have HD...which I think most point and shoots regularly have now. But still, it is good and better then Sony.

DO NOT GET A NIKON point and shoot! They all suck.

That's with any P&S really..the S90 is better than most at night with its oversized sensor and the fact that it can shoot at F/2.0

basically, what i'm looking for is something that takes good pics for eBay and such for one thing...but then for concerts I go to, I want it to take nice pics...and I want a nice video quality as well as sound...my cybershot had great sound on the video, but the visual part sucked! doesn't have to be HD...

i have heard great things about the S90.

Even at F/2.0, it is still slow from what I hear from reviews. I've had a G9 and used a G10 and those were better but still sucked and was grossly huge.

And yes I agree....all P&S suck at shooting at night, unless you used the stupid flash. I would get the S90 if it was like a $100 cheaper but if I had to drop $400 on it, I would rather save it towards a DSLR with HD video.

It wouldnt hurt to check out the canon SD line. Ive had mine for a few years now and has continued to provide a nice quality picture considering it's small size.

I agree. No point in getting a $400 P&S when it won't perform nearly as good as a DLSR. Get a SD line and it will save you money and do what you pretty much want. Hi-end P&S are meant for people that actually want to use manual controls when shooting and if you are just used to pointing and.....uh shooting, then there is no point in getting a Canon S90 or even a Canon G11.

Get the Canon SD780. It shoots 12mp pics and HD video at 30fps and best of all, you can get it for like $150.

HD Video is ON POINT!!! Has HDMI output as well.

It should really be only between these two:

Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS7 (better than the ZS3 up above) - has the same lens found in Leicas -- costs about $306 at B&H
Canon Powershot S90 (shoots RAW) -- costs about $365 on Amazon & B&H

Panasonic LX3 is still awesome after 2.5 years.

Canon s90 is nice, glad to see Canon continuing the s line. You can grab one for 342 on Overstock when using their 15% promotion. Lowest I ever saw the LX3 was 365 on Amazon, and I still kick myself for not pulling the trigger.

I'm in the market for a DSLR--would this be the best one?  I'm fairly amateur and would just be using it for leisure and such.

And how is low light shooting? Like OP, I want to be able to shoot some stuff at concerts. I was at the Chrisette Michelle concert maybe 15 feet away from the stage at House of Blues but had no camera so I tried to use my Touch Pro 2, couldn't see !#!*
