Rich Johnston reports this morning that manga creator Akira Toriyama is going to write some new chapters of Dragon Ball (also known as Dragon Ball Z in the United States). Dragon Ball originally ran from 1984 to 1995 in Japan, and Viz Media published it in the U.S.

Johnston states the obvious: “Something that will make this event even more spectacular is a simultaneous fully translated worldwide launch of the new book.

I thought he DIDN'T have a hand in GT? Maybe they can continue after the Buu saga.
 
I hope he starts a whole new story. I don't wanna try to catchup on DBGT.

Well if he plans on writing chapters to Dragon Ball Z...Then the story arc should focus on the Z storyline rather than the GT storyline..

Btw, how is GT? I never had a chance to follow the show when it was first released in Japan.

I do not fully remember what Toriyamas responsibilities were for GT but he was involved, however, the GT sereis weren't based on the Manga he has written. It was mostly just off the fly story that is why it seemed like it was made just to make some money. This time, it looks like Toriyama is starting out with the Manga again and then hopefully make that into anime.

He should start fill in the 7 year gap between the Cell saga and the Buu saga. I'd like to actually see the first time Goky learned levels 2 & 3 as well as Vegeta when he learned level 2. Only problem is those 7 years were a time of peace so there wouldn't be any villains :-/  Perhaps he should start immediately after the Buu saga and he should let Vegeta go level 3...
