Pitching matchup
NYM: RHP Livan Hernandez (4-1, 4.28 ERA)
Hernandez threw his first nine-inning complete game since May 7 of last year, holding the Nationals to a lone run on nine hits in a 6-1 win Tuesday. Hernandez has started against the Pirates just twice in the past three seasons, with little success. He is 0-1 with a 6.30 ERA, allowing seven runs on 17 hits in 10 innings. Hernandez has also struggled mightily in June since 2006, compiling a 4-9 mark with a 6.73 ERA in 17 starts during the month -- his highest ERA of any month during that stretch.

PIT: RHP Ian Snell (1-6, 5.43 ERA)
Snell has to be glad to see the calendar page turn to June after he finished May with an 0-3 record and a 7.50 ERA. He gave up at least three runs in each of his six starts during the month. Snell has been especially hurt by two-out hits all season. Of the 32 runs he's allowed this year, 18 have come with two outs. Snell lost his May 10 start to the Mets -- six innings, three earned runs, six hits and five strikeouts -- in a game where Snell claimed New York was stealing the catcher's signs.

Tidbits
Manuel said that shortstop Jose Reyes, who was placed on the disabled list Tuesday, would leave for Florida on Sunday before playing in rehab games Tuesday and Wednesday. If all goes well, Reyes could be back with the team when he's eligible to come off the DL on Friday. ... Infielder Alex Cora is still on schedule to return to the Mets on Tuesday after a three-game rehab stint with Triple-A Buffalo. ... The win was the Mets' first in a rubber game all season. They had been 0-4. ... The Mets finish May with a 19-9 record, tied for the third-best May record in franchise history.

Putz is throwing 92mph.....something HAS to be wrong.

There is no excuse to blow this game, he had an 0-2 count and grooves one down the middle.

Nothing but fastballs?

Why even go to Putz in that spot, he has been ineffective for a while with no command.

The hell is Stokes on this team for?

I blame Schneider just as much as Putz.

I don't ever do this.

But this is the first time I've felt like just turning off my tv.

This is despicable.

There is a reason the pitchers prefer Santos over Schneider.

Like I said before, give the 8th inning job to Parnell.

Mets had 1 hit after the 3rd inning.

Scored early and nothing after wards.

Mets blow the lead late (Putz throwing 92 mph and throwing nothing but fastballs).

Opposing player makes a spectacular defensive play to end the Mets chances in the 9th.

These kinds of losses happen, but for a day it feels like 2008.

Ehh, these games have been few and far inbetween so Ill live with it.

Putz needs to be sat down for a good week and just be given time to get his #!$@ together.

Just got back from my friends crib, left after the seventh thinking it was a wrap.

And yes, Parns and his 100 mph > Putz.

I forgot how fast Fernando is on the base paths.

He still looks a little tentative out there but he's holding his own.
