Its crazy that backups of backups are getting hurt now, we have a lot of solid bench players playing everyday and they are being exposed. In limited roles,professional guys like Cora would be thriving.

With Gado gone next season, we will have to look to add 2 power bats to the lineup......can anyone pull up the list of 2009 free agents (including my dudeOrlando Hudson)?

I just hope this team gets younger and begins to build from the core up, you sign those FA's to compliment your young home grown players (ie Red Sox).

Theo Epstein is very smart and a stat guy. Omar and his minions are more "raw talent" guys. He really doesn't know much about theplayers in the high school and college level in the states.

Jerry was serious about what I am posting:


ATLANTA -- Outfielder Gary Sheffield remained out of the Mets' starting lineup Sunday with soreness in his right hamstring. Manager Jerry Manuel said he ishoping Sheffield can return Monday or Tuesday against Washington.

In the meantime, the Mets will have to get by with just three position players on their bench. They could release Tim Redding to make room for another positionplayer, but if they don't, Manuel said he could use Livan Hernandez as a pinch hitter or a corner infielder if he runs out of options on the bench.


Hernandez is a .229 career hitter, pretty good for a pitcher. But Hernandez at first base? Apparently Manuel was being serious.

Hernandez has never played a position other than pitcher in his major-league career, but said he has always wanted to. He even took grounders at third at CitiField during the Mets' last home stand.

"I want to do it," Hernandez said. "That's my dream -- to play one day at one position. I'll play anywhere."


This would be the sign of what our season has become

Anyways, this is who I would sign next year:

C- Bengie Molina- no more than a 2 year deal

Dude, Santana and Halladay equals a World Series next year. Those are the 2 best pitchers in baseball. Parnell, Niese and Martinez will never bethat good. Our bullpen would be weak, though.

^That was basically the attitude one of the hosts had about Halladay plus, in one week at citi field, you could see santana one night and Halladay the next.

that would put butts in the seats for the rest of the year even if the team was not going to recover and not compete for the playoffs.


He also said that he thinks the "New Stadium" aspect has worn off on Mets fans due to their poor play and injuries. This would make that importantagain and people would come out who aren't mets fans if they got Halladay.

Nomar has been injured a lot this year and Millar is getting old he's been limited to bench play this season. You want a 1B try Adam LaRoche. I don'tsee the infatuation with Nick Johnson when he gets injured so much.

Catcher, I see two options: either keep Brian, get rid of Castro and get someone like Bard or (if you can get him CHEAP) Ramon Hernandez to back him up oreither trade a couple prospects for Martinez and sign him and keep Castro as a back up. Victor would be solid on the Mets.

I don't think STL is going to let go of Greene. A good sleeper pickup for the bench could be Catalanatto.

FORGET MATT HOLLIDAY

Got a lot of options for corner OF. Nady is coming off Tommy John surgery so he could come pretty cheap and pay good dividends. Vlad is

gotta see how he comes back the rest of the season. Mags is getting old quick,if you can get him cheap maybe he can pick it up in the NL. If you can get Holliday for less do it but if not avoid him. Endy would be a good pick-up.

SP's is tough. Bedard might be a good pick up in the NL if he can stay healthy and Justin D from Oakland would be a STEAL to get him away from Beane.

Bengie would be a good mentor for Santos imo and platooning the two of them together would be decent and much better than Schneider and Santos.Figuring the Mets don't trade Martinez and he lives up to his expectations, Mags would be a decent stopgap at left, all he would hahve to do is perform onpar with Sheffield this year. He really is the last resort, though. John Lackey can pitch when he's healthy, put him behind Santana and that rotation islegit. If we can do better I would be ecstatic. But I'm not that confident.

And Shuges if we resign Putz (albeit costly) losing Parnell won't be that big of a blow. Idk I just can't see myself passing up on the best pitcher inbaseball because of depth issues.

I totally hear where you're coming from JRS. If we did do that trade and lost Parnell... then resigned Putz.... we still have Wags (thoughcoming off of major surgery) to fill a spot.

And bobby, do you really watch that much baseball? That's good %#%* man. I remember saying at the start of the season that I can only watch the Mets, theYanks, the Sawx and.... hmmmm.... maybe the Dodgers when Manny is batting or Kershaw is pitching.

I mean, there are a lot of players I like in mlb. But to watch two teams I have ZERO interest in? Can't do it.

Keep your young kids until the right deal comes along...honestly outside of Parnell I just don't see it.

OKAY -

Metsblog and Jon Heyman confirm that the Mets INDEED rejected the deal.


After reading everything they said, I agree that it is to tempting to have Johan and Roy even if this season is a wash.


You keep Holt and Merjia while giving up a outfielder who can't play a whole year without getting injured more than once, two pitchers that have had theirups and down while playing in the big league, and a shortstop that probably is the best piece in the deal.





Will Niese and Parnell ever come close to halladay?








If we can get Rios (i know he is not a great player but still) and Halladay for that group, sign me up.





We keep our three best Prospects out of four with the first baseman still here too.


I know the bullpen would be depleted but Bobby has never thrilled me out of the pen. Shuges - I can barely watch MLB at home because I get Bored, Know thegame, Love the Mets, just gets boring sometimes. When I am there it is a different story of course. You could get more out of me from the NBA (which you haveseen) then baseball other than the big club.
