I'll put it further... Yankees opening day position players totaled $170,104,000 for 14 guys
(Trevino, Wells, Rizzo, LeMahieu, Torres, Berti, Volpe, Cabrera, Judge, Stanton, Verdugo, Jones, Grisham, Soto)
Currently the Yankees have 11
(Wells, Trevino, Rizzo ($9mil total), LeMahieu, Volpe, Jazz, Peraza, Judge, Stanton, Cabrera, Dominguez)
That total comes out to $110,500,000
Meaning they could sign Soto for $45mil a year (making him highest AAV in the league)
Gleyber for $15mil.
And if they add a rookie to round out the 14 you can skate by with only $1.5mil increase.
Have to basically find a team for LeMahieu. Can have like 5 prospects just to take a split.
Decline Berti & Grisham's arbitrations.
Getting out of DJ’s contract would make the possibility of going after a name in FA or trade at 1B possible.
Salary wise would be like they had a team 90% of the way set. And spent $10mil on one open spot.
