Newspaper from the '99 lockout that i saved, let's take a look back at some of the headlines

Good ups on those articles. Lets hope it doesnt get to what it was in 99... A short season is better than none, but even so we need basketball back.

all jokes aside, I remember that they felt that Ewing (who was the union president) was too stubborn. The players wanted to save the season but with Ewing in it, they felt they might have risked the entire season. Basically, there was just too much disagreement going on at the time.

There was silly quote during the lockout when Ewing said "We make alot of money but we spend alot"

reading that article that YBD posted, found a good quote by Nick Anderson that sums it up best

I thought it should have been done a long time ago.....Why do you let it come to this point? It shouldn't have come to this point. It was stubbornness on both parts. When you think about it, money is the root of all evil.

My memory's not good at the moment, but was this the year when the Knicks-Spurs played in the Finals?

I remember I was on vaca and watching LJ do his thing on the court

From what I remember from the 99 lockout Ewing wanted to hold out but players who were underpaid started getting uneasy with not getting checks and wanted Ewing to get a deal done so during the next players vote he was outvoted by a wide majority led by guys like Hakeem Olajuwon.

And the owners found out that the players were starting to cave so during the next union/owners meeting Stern set a January date for when the season would get cancelled and they straight pounded Pat and Billy Hunter into the ground until they took the deal.

On the surface it seems like a big win for the owners until the deal expired in 2005 and the NBA was on the verge of another lockout until a deal was worked out at the 11th hour. That's when players got mass benefits and deals including the economy downturn that's lead up to the problems we see today.

here's another scan

the owners and players union should take a look at this one

Damn, even the lockout headlines looked cooler in the 90's!!

This brings back memories, Knicks were fun to watch that season. Kemp did have some good years in Cleveland but definitely did not justify his contract. As a Seattle native and Sonics fan it was sad to see how much he let himself go and declined with Portland in 2000.

Definitely. If you think he was out of it in Portland, think back to his final NBA season in Orlando. That was awful to watch.
