Just watching MNF and Gruden just brought across a point I broughta up with my friends on Sunday, that if this year a sub .500 team makes the playoffs then there needs to be a rule change for next season.

New rule being that if you win your division and you are not at least a .500 ball club and there are other teams out there with a winning record you would forfeit your playoff spot and have the other team get in. I'd much rather see a deserving team like Green Bay or Tampa get in than any other team in the NFC West.

What are your thoughts? Should they just get rid of divisions and have the six teams with the best record in each conference go to the playoffs? Like not get rid of divisions as a whole, so we would still see the rivalrys we love but reward the teams that deserve it.

at people getting upset at this when its been the same thing with the entire Eastern Conference in the NBA for the better part of two decades.

This is just one year, I don't think it warrants changing the entire structure of the divisions. Division rivalries are one of the great things about football, you can't just get rid of them. And besides, if they add more teams to the playoffs, then it's going to get watered down, sort of like the NBA where the first round is typically very boring. It's tough for teams like Tampa Bay and Green Bay this season, but that does not mean divisions should be done away with.

Maybe have a rule where if a sub .500 team wins the division it must play a game against a 2nd wildcard team from the same conference.

They are like the Big East in CFB.

I do think, however, that the teams in the NFC West are better then the records they have.

Rams are not bad now.
Seahawks are decent.
49ers have the pieces to be good
Cardinals just need a QB

, but other than that they are solid.

I wouldn't want them to let me teams get in, 6 is good and I said they could keep the divisions as far as having those rivalry games, but just make so that the playoffs are based win/loss and not division winnners

Not a bad idea, I would keep the two wildcards that they have and then have the sub .500 team the next best team in line the normally would have missed the cut

I also hate this about the NBA, I remember one season a 49 and 48 team in the West didn't make it and like two sub.500 East teams got in

warriors went 48-34 (or something similar) in 07-08 and missed the playoffs.
