Nike LeBron 23

Interested in seeing the black/silver pair

Hope they release this year

The black carrier beside it is Cushlon 3.0. That’s some beefy Cushlon but I would’ve preferred no ZoomX and a full length Zoom unit within the Cushlon or a Zoom strobel similar to the KD 14. Just off the tech prior to actually trying them I’m not too optimistic on their performance compared to the XX-XXII or even the XI. This is practically an XI but with foam cushion and a CF plate..

He had his hand in these.

Let’s be real, this was probably a cost-cutting move. Nike knows people care more about how a shoe looks than what's under the hood. They can skimp on cushioning because the average consumer isn’t checking for it, they’re checking for style.

The Kobe 8 and 9 retail around $200, and Nike still cuts corners on tech. Why? Because most buyers aren’t loyal to Air units or Zoom tech. They’re loyal to the brand

Nike’s betting that style > substance. And honestly? They're not wrong.

I agree but style over substance is mainly in their retro game from court models to turf/baseball models. On OG models Nike mainly delivers especially the big sigs, KD, LeBron, OG Kobe, etc. And this move of theirs could easily be them moving around their budget, taking from the material/tech budget and pumping up the marketing/packaging budget. Realistically, on a project like this, the 23rd sig for LeBron James, should throw the budget aside and go all out. This IS Nike we're talking about. They can afford it.

On the other hand, we have no idea how these perform. These could very well be BEASTS on court and be a 10/10 performer and objectively speaking that's what we want. Yes, removing any type of Air whether it be Air Max or Zoom Air is a very weird choice for a signature line that has always had it present but if they found a way to make it work more power to them. Look at Kobe's for example, their OG run, they went from forefoot and heel Zoom to Lunarlon  Those who remember know Lunarlon make ZoomX look like actual Zoom in terms of durability.

I used to ride hard for Zoom above everything, but over the past year I’ve tried out a bunch of different cushioning setups… ZoomX, React, Cushlon, Lightstrike, Jet Boost, LightBoost, Anta’s N2, and probably a few more I’m forgetting.

Honestly, outside of React (which just isn’t it), most of them have been pretty solid. My main takeaway is the cushioning has to match the shoe… like don’t throw a super light upper on top of a clunky, heavy midsole. Also, there are times when I don’t love the Zoom setup in some shoes because it feels TOO bouncy and unstable.

Anyhow, I don’t mind Nike trying something new. I guess since it’s a drop-in maybe in a perfect world they could add a Zoom version for those that prefer that setup… or maybe there’s an existing model that has a drop-in that will fit.

To be fair it’s mostly faulty design over the Zoom being to blame. In this instance, with this much containment, I doubt it would be unstable. A LeBron XI like drop-in with today’s tech (ZoomX/Zoom combo) would’ve sufficed as they were some all-time great performers. I lowkey don’t understand how a release of this magnitude doesn’t warrant that as opposed to the fourth iteration of a non-sig line (GT Cut 4, fingers crossed they get it right).

I agree though with trying out different tech and being pleased with it. I love my AE 1s, Harden 8s, and ANTA Kai 1s. Again, I’m sure I’ll like these as well. I love Cushlon, I’m positive the ZoomX will deliver, I’ve been wanting to try it for quite some time now but I’ve had no faith in the Cuts or Jordan models that incorporate it compared to the Cushlon/Zoom models I play in.

I’m hopeful they could perform well, but I still feel like this was a budget cost measure. The LeBron IV was a drop-in as well and those lasted a decent while, but was a Zoom bag inside of a foam carrier. I’m hopeful these will be somewhat the thickness of those because after breaking them in the midsole got thinner and closer to the court, while still offering great impact protection.

I just don’t want these to be TOO low to the ground, they are a LeBron after all so cushioning should still be the main thing. Durability is my biggest concern…

^ I mentioned it above, but what's interesting to me is I think we haven't talked enough about the iridescence of the Miami Twice colorway. It looks completely light in some images and very pink opaque in others. Yeah it's 'just' the lighting and optical stuff, but the colors look strikingly different.

I like the Miami pair, they might be by consolation when I miss out on the golds.

That's what I love about them is that opaque hit. I actually didn't even like them when that first picture was posted because of the printed upper, but the first time I saw that pink color shift I was in

Man I was in on the Miami pair as soon as I saw the Swoosh. I want 3 of the 4 pairs shown already. Uncharted, Miami Twice, and the AZG pair. Miami pair is going straight to court, AZG will be next as I hope to hit on 2 for that release. This model literally cleared out the rest of my year with the only exception being the GT Future. Had a few releases I was looking to get but once these hit, yeah, **** that 😂

There's no way though that the light/lighting or viewing angle can make the outsole go from solid white to translucent pink. I prefer the translucent pink. I'm kinda bummed that it looks like it's going to be white. Weird though, there's all of these photos taken before the press release but the press release has the translucent pink. You'd think the press release would be the most up to date or the most accurate espcially if the press release was just put out a few days ago. That sole is a mystery. Lighting won't change it that much. There's no way they're the same.

Maybe I missed someone mentioning this earlier. I just jumped in the thread today. I tried going through it from the beginning but after 10 or 11 pages I decided to just go to the end.

US will likely get the translucent pink and Asia the solid sole. That’s how they do for most of their sigs with Books being the one I recently remember (like the Havens). Also remember the tour is in China so that’s why we’re seeing the solid sole. If it were in the US I doubt we’d see that pair.

Good call - good point
