Nike LeBron 23

I just assumed teal was being used because that was the original color used by the Vancouver Grizzlies. 🤷🏽‍♂️
If it wasn't announced, I would too. But it was done to represent the hotel/museum.

What King are they honoring?
It's a double entendre, but the clear reference is Dr. King, and the museum is also for Dr. King. This begs the question what the real issue is from your perspective. Is it the suggestion that the shoe specifically and intentionally references the site of MLK's assassination (which is a selective interpretation given the use of the same design cues on special jerseys for the memphis grizzlies)? Is it the suggestion of any sort of superficial connection between Dr. King and Lebron based on a nickname double entendre (completely fair to take issue with that, but that's not at all where this argument even started)?

I'm not gonna tell anyone not to be mad but let's not act like there isn't some personal selectivity in what to be mad at here, rather than treating all of this as objective fact.

Saw a comment from an elder in the Memphis community that said the museum had no knowledge, involvement, or approval for any of this. In my mind if it was a genuine attempt to pay homage, Nike knows how to do it the right way with programs like Doenbecher etc.

All this for a wack cw at that

I saw a few good points that l want to address:
The Memphis jersey was applauded bc it is seen more of a tribute than a cash grab, people don’t immediately think to buy jerseys they same way they think to buy shoes.

second point, if the motel sells commemorative items, the profit goes to the motel. I doubt Nike plans on donating any proceeds.

I think the March on Selma would’ve been an excellent tribute, esp if they would’ve donated to a charity. 20% of each purchase goes to a certain foundation, for example.

I think this is a strong point separating Memphis' jersey design from these shoes.
Obviously the NBA/Grizzlies make a profit on the jerseys, but the intent is clearly to represent Memphis, not make money. Money is made, but clearly the intent is on the city, which has the hotel.

Completely agree.
"A percentage of all sales from the HTK shoe will go to _______," and then there are limitless possibilities to fill in that blank.

I hear you.
Side note, completely unrelated: are you Christian?

You know what I thought that during the discussion and was wondering if that's why some people didn't find it problematic. Since I was a kid always thought it was weird.

and nah, I'm not.

Ndc removed majority of the 23s that have released so far!?! Does that mean they are coming to outlets soon lol
