After driving in my coworkers S2K, I realized that I want a 2-seater convertible...these two carscan be found for fairly cheap...what do youknow about either one in terms of reliability....or anything else....

As unusual as you are we sure do have a lot in common. That said, the del sol iwishes it could be mentioned in the same sentence as miata. Even tothis day I still think about selling my car to get a miata. What years do you like? I know a lot about them(somewhat).

An S2K is VERYYY different than a Miata or Del Sol.

Miata's and Del Sols are cards typically driven by females. (Add old men from Florida to the Miata list)

Lulz...I've driven a delsol before and it was mad fun to drive....I can't drivestick (no need for a pause here

) so the Miata mightbe out the question...Anyhow - I was on craigslist and found a few Miatas for under $2000 CDN....obvious beaters, but I like to work on my cars and it would bea decent weekend project for the spring...I'm looking at earlier models....OG series... wanna know how long these things last for and how well the tranniesand engines hold up...I'd prolly be doing the majority of the work myself so I wanna know how easy they are to work on.

He's right about the S2k. You should drive all of them though and get an idea of what you want. There's nothing quite like a 2 seater vert

I mean, RWD > FWD ....but I'm not really talking about the drive more the feel....%*@! feelslike I'm in a cockpit ______________

Plus convertibles/topless vehicles are fun as %*@!

rwd>>>

even though deep down I <3 honda

both have a number of aftermarket parts that makes them

also, and I dont know why people see them as female cars

They have iron block engines that hold very well and ive never heard of any problems with the ******s. Being that you are in Canda take care to really inspectthe car for rust. From what I saw when I was about to purchase one that would make a great project car. 90-93 1.6L 94-97 1.8L. They'll last very long if itproperly looked after. Ive seen plenty over 200k miles. I urge you to learn how to drive stick. I think you'd enjoy it besides, its only right with a carlike a miata.

miata one of the best convertible ever made ...its fast and nimble and handle quite nicely ...take it to the track, you have major fun with it ...also thereplently of loyal miata owner on the web ...

i havn't been caught up in the import scene for years after i sold my 98 240sx...but i always love the SR20DET motor ...does the KLZE maintainthe 50/50 ratio on the miata? i heard when you swap the SR motor into the miata is keeps that 50/50 ...

i had a 94 del sol, was a fun little car but too slow for my tastes. last honda i owned. plenty of aftermarket available.

How'd you drive a S200 when you can't drive manual? I thought all of them are manual. But IMO Miata's arent girl cars, theyre pretty nice actuallyand is a great sports car
Miata > Del Sol. Del Sols are ugly

Last miata I saw was literally ran the hell over by an 18-wheeler.

Crushed like a pancake. Both bodies in the miata were crushed. The 18-wheeler got A flat tire and some scratches on the front end.

But best of luck to ya!

True, not worth the time... especially for cali residents.

The Miata a great car with great handles stock... that can be even further improved through mods. Not much when its straight NA though as the 94-97 miata onlypulls a whopping 94 rwhp (130 hp). But once you go force induction or even better v8/ls1 swap! That thing can run as fast as high 13s.

Downside to miatas is trunk space SUCK! I commute back and forth from Fairfield, to Sac... and it can't carry too much.

Both are def reliable cars though. When I was first shopping around for a replacment for my 89 CRX, it was a toss up between a del sol with a GSR motor or amazda miata. I ended up going for the miata because I wanted to try out RWD... never regreted it once.

Heres my supercharged DD, and the garage queen.

As for s2ks... They're fun. But living in the city, my friend didn't get the full enjoyment of it. Because by the time the vtech kicked in... he had tobreak at a light.

Do not listen to the people saying that a Miata is a girl's car. I would trade my Altima in for one any day of the week.

To answer your question. I have driven both a Del Sol (stick), and a Miata (stick). The Miata was a lot more fun to drive and really felt like it was on rails. They are extremely reliable cars, and have a nice power to weight ratio.

I too would recommend that you just go with a standard transmission. Even if you don't know how, you can learn in a couple hours, and perfect yourtechnique over a couple months. All it takes is practice, and it's a much better feel when you're behind the wheel.
