Woke up this morning and could barely hear out of my right ear. felt something clogged up and decided to grab a qtip and a small chunk of wax came out. my hearing got a little better. kinda freaked me out since i never really had a problem with this. was sticky and had this smell to it :x

anyone ever go to the doctors to have their ear flushed out? do you recommend any of the over the counter stuff? not sure if i want to be picking at it myself :lol

i remember my older cousin would use this little metal pick and scoop it out when i was younger. did feel good though

Try Murine, it's an OTC earwax removal kit you can get at CVS. It may take a couple days of use before it gets better.

Or if it's not getting any better, head to the doc and he can flush it out for you.

You don't want to put anything in your ear that is bigger than your elbow - q-tips are especially bad as they just shove the wax in there.

I get that occasionally - lost the hearing on one side completely a couple of times last year which is really annoying. A few days of almond oil and then syringing helped - you can get that done at the doctor (usually a nurse does it) or you can do it yourself if you're careful. Boiled, cooled, salty water and a syringe do it.

Nothing more satisfying - and then there's the spiderman feeling when you can hear absolutely everything for a few days as your brain settles down again.

Go buy some OTC Debrox. If you go to the doctor, they'll just use a mini curette or do a quick flush.

i have an issue with buildup in my ears because I have really dry skin in my ears. ill go see the ENT doc every 6-9 mo for a flush and like others have mentioned, it really is a satisfying experience when you get that spidey sense hearing.

Two months ago, I fell asleep with my headphones on. Woke up in the middle of the night because the left earbud got stuck in my ear

I stupidly tried to pull it out myself and ended up pushing it in even further. One of the worst and most annoying pains I ever felt. Went to the doctor's office and had the nurse pull it out with alligator forceps.

been having this problem lately as well...no more in ear head phones yo....Ive had em flushed at the doctor before and that ish was super uncomfortable

There is prolly a lot of wax on your eardrum. Because of that it wont vibrate and your hearing gets worse. Go see a doctor and never use Qtips.

I would hope not

But OP, pour a cap full of peroxide down each ear and tilt your head to the side to let all the wax drip out

I learned that from a previous thread on here. That **** felt almost as good as a nut

this is very similar to what they will do for you at the doc office. they put peroxide in your ear to soften up the wax and then they will use a suction machine to suck it all out. doing it this way may not be as effective (since you are using gravity instead of suction) but im sure its better than doing nothing.

You're suppose to let nature take its course. THe earwax will eventually fall out naturally. But when it gets to this point, best thing to do is see a ENT doc.

so how are you supposed to clean your ears?

i have OCD about my ears and use qtips everyday :lol

what durty pancakes said

if you have healthy ears, they should be self cleaning. no need to jam stuff in there.

i dont have healthy ears so i am constantly goin at it with curettes and qtips which provide temporary relief but end up making the situation worse in the long run. I see my ENT doc as much as I see my normal doc.

It's build up from bacteria being fought off in your ear or excess use of LOUD earbuds, remedy:

Grab a towel, peroxide, some warm water. Lay on the side that doesn't hurt, so that the infected ear is face up.
pour peroxide into the ear, repeat until you don't hear anymore crackling. rinse with warm water.

Often (myself included), people make the ear worse by digging in it excessively thinking it's the reason they can't hear.

If it's from your earbuds, the loud vibrations has swollen your canal and small fibers that help you hear, this traps dirt and germs DEEP in there.

...give it 3-4 days and it should clear up. (No MD though)

in the west indies they used to just pour some hydrogen peroxide let it bubble for a while then toss it out and then qtip that bad boy up

im at work and, i was messing around and put the tip of a paper clip (not even deep) but a whole lot of wax came out (pea size). it relieved it a little. but just went to walgreens and got debrox. anyone used this before?

Reminds me of that video on WSHH when dude had a straight up cockroach in his ear. :x

I tried some over the counter stuff to clear mine out. It softened it up but i couldn't get it out. I could barely hear out of my left ear for a day and was really annoying. Went to the doctor first thing in the morning the next day and the nurse put some stuff in it and made me lie down for 15 minutes to soften it up. Than flushed it out with this big turkey baster looking thing full of water. Felt so good to be able to hear again once she finished.

This happened to me too. My ear canals are a bit narrow so using a q-tip would just stuff the wax in. One time I think I got water in one of my ears so I tried to dry it out with a q-tip and I guess I pushed all the ear wax in and it blocked my hearing. I thought it was just water stuck in there so I kept using a q-tip on it every now and then and it only got worse. So I went to the clinic at my university and the doctor recommended me the Debrox kit. But it didn't work, it probably did break up the build up, but it required using that small bulb to flush it out, I guess there wasn't enough pressure so it just got a bunch of water in there. So I had to go back to the clinic and the doctor used a syringe and just flushed it out. And it definitely felt so good. I couldn't hear out of one ear for 4 or 5 days at that point.

Funny thing is, I got an ear infection out of this and as I was waiting in line to get my antibiotics the girl in front of me was on the phone and talking about how she has an ear infection too and she said "The doctor told me I have an ear infection. Really?! Little kids get ear infections, what am I five?" I was standing there :o

I use Q-tips twice a day but only after I shower. I just use them to dry my ears out.

Wet ear feeling :x
