NT Dread heads..quick question

I tried to dye my tips twice and they just won't dye. The first time i tried brown and nothing happened tonight I tried to dye them red but for some reason they just won't stay in. I used the dye from revlon. Had dreads for 2 years and my hair is thick black. Any help or tips would be very much appreciated thanks!

bleach the tips blond first.

How long do you leave them in? And what knd of hair dye do you use?
