NT, Help Me ID a Genre or Put Me on to Something New Vol. Stupid weather channel..

I was channel surfing and I ran across NBC's weather channel and they had this great song playing. No vocals. Had some distorted (metal-style) guitarsplaying soft in the background but the overall song was relaxing. Had some nice drums, an acoustic guitar and some other sounds/instruments.

If I had to describe it, it was almost like Progressive Metal meets Elevator music.

I doubt I will ever find that song so I'm asking you guys to put me on to any bands that follow a similar formula. Any help is appreciated
