Don't know what you're into. In terms of nightlife, you can do it lowkey and find some places that play really good music, or you can hit up thedifferent hyped up clubs where the females look good but the music is a bit lacking. Wide variety of scenes for the nightlife, ranging from MILK (for livespinning most nights) to Ruby Skye (mostly house, correct me if i'm wrong? might have a hip hop room). I really only know bars, so I'm sure someoneelse can be of service here too.
For food, traveling out to the Richmond or Sunset districts will get you good Asian food. Around Union Square and Van Ness would be all of the good steakhousesand pricer options. Castro and Mission offer really good variety (nh), with Castro having some good brunch options and Mission offering good Mexican options(as well as a fun barhopping scene). Fillmore has a good chicken and waffles place that just opened up too. North Beach has some great Italian food.Embarcadero has some good variety too (Slanted Door is ok for the price, I think there's a Brazillian churascarria near the ferry building too? Definitelydo some research into the food scene of SF if you're into eating good, there's a lot of great restaurants and SF might not get much respect from acuisine standpoint. If you've got a car, I'd recommend Namu in the Richmond. Really good Asian Fusion style food. Place looks good too.
Union Square for shopping, a lot of high end stuff (Bloomingdales, Barney's, Goyard, LV, Gucci, etc), as well as more affordable stuff (H&M,Macy's, Urban Outfitters). Haight is still ok for more urban clothing. I'm sure someone else could be more descriptive with this portion.
You should be fine going around most places at night. I'm assuming you're not going to walk around Hunters Point popping +$!+ at 1AM.
