since i started the thread i'll go first.

getting older and trying to cop a place of my own so i've been trying to save as much as i can.

take home pay after taxes is about $3k. (need to find a higher paying job, but beggars can't be choosers at the moment)

i'd say i save about $2k a month right now.  my monthly spendings basically goes to going out with my gf and personal spending.  my rent situation right now i only have to pay very minimally, so i'm really lucky in that aspect.

guess i'm starting this thread just to see where everyone else is potentially use it as a motivation to reach a certain salary.

I make about $0 and spend about 3k a month. So you can say I'm doing pretty well for myself

i'm early 30's, so this is on the low end to people in my age range i would say.  [IMG]

ksteezy, i'm trying to save for a place.  once i buy one and have a mortgage, i'd be lucky to save $500 a month with my current income.

I am paying a mortgage though.....

Side note: My wife needs to chill with this renovation project :x .

    She's looking at a $6000 front door.

You make 3k a month or bi-weekly after taxes?

Either way, that's pretty good. At least 65k before taxes a year.

    Nevermind: I see it's monthly.

I don't save as much as I will like... but I bring home close to 4k month. It's just me, so I'm good.

I'm making a little under 3K a month after tax on straight time with no days off. If there's overtime, it's a whole different story :pimp:

Can't wait until I'm at Journeyman wages. :pimp:

I probably save like 1,500-2k a month :smh: but then I spend it. just bought a harley but as soon as I'm done building this one, I'm saving and not touching it til I get to 25Kish, unless I decide to buy myself a Silveraydo.

edit: OP, what do you claim on Taxes? I'm claiming zero.

    Does that include 401k?

After taxes, SS, medicare, health insurance, 401k I have close to $3700 monthly (close to $4200 is I'm not including 401k).

So with the $4200 as a base, if we're looking at total deductions for my 401k, Roth IRA, Non-IRA Investment, Personal Savings, and another IRA (rolled over), I save close to $1400 a month.

3K is actually not that much.

OP - So you're basically saving 2/3 of your salary every month? That's impressive.

Yeah. You can net $3000 a month, but if you live in an area where rent starts at $1300 for a ****** studio, you're not flourishing. Or you're flourishing, but not saving. Or your doing both and and sharing living space.

3k is def not a lot at my age.  i live in a major city and life is not cheap here.  i don't think i'll feel like i've accomplished anything until i can make at least $5k a month after taxes.

i think most you dudes that think 3k is a lot must be in your early-mid 20's.  once you reach late 20's-early 30's, you will think otherwise.  at 3k a month at my age i'm probably just slightly above average, though i haven't looked at any stats (just guessing)

I save about 1k a month, 450 into a roth, 300 into my scottrade account,  and the rest goes into my 401k/short term savings....All set up automatically so I don't miss it.

I really wish the government would let me contribute more to my roth....
