~NT, recommend me good books/autobiographies about athletes overcoming obstacles

My mom is looking to recommend a book to a student, an avid sports fan, who is going through a real rough time right now.
Has anyone read any good books about/by athletes that is kind of centered around overcoming setbacks against odds, etc?
