Hands down like 6:30 one the greatest jazz musicians of the 20th century....Antonio. Carlos. Jobim.

His melodies are in a whole other dimension...

Yusef Lateef is another one of my fave muscians...

Two of the most beautiful songs ever recorded IMO....

"Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis with John Coltrane (and others) is a must have.  "%*!#%## Brew" and "Sketches of Spain" are also great albums from Miles.  I'd check out "A Love Supreme" by Coltrane, Jaco Pastorious' self titled album, as well as "School Days" by Stanley Clarke.  Marcus Miller has some funky stuff as well that might be good for sampling, including a "Power of Love" Hendrix cover on bass guitar.

If you decide you're really tired of rap and hip-hop and want some other good stuff besides jazz I'd be happy to steer you in the right direction with that as well.
