Not really a place i would recommend taking a child....lots of drunk high school/college kids.

Im from the area and i wouldnt recommend you take your wife and son.
To me because of what Jordan on my... said and the water is dirty.
It would be a nice experience for you son though. Its not that bad.
If your looking for something around the area then id suggest you choose Ocean city
because there is nothing else nice near.
