OFFICIAL 2020 STIMULUS CHECK THREAD

it’s crazy that they won’t lend us the money that is ours to begin with.

Not sure if this has been posted, but for anyone who doesn’t know, you will be receiving a form 1444 to file on your tax returns this year, if you received a stimulus check. It will effect your refund dollar for dollar.

for example if you had a 3500 refund coming your way, the 1200 for the single adults will be deducted. You will receive a 2300 refund.

Also, to add.

for the people that did not receive their stimulus, you will be able to claim this on your taxes as well and it will be ADDED to your tax refund.

for example, if you have a 2500, refund coming. Single, no children. That 1200 stimulus that never made it to you will be added To your return.

married and filing with dependents would be the same case with the enhanced stimulus ($500 each dependent)

I was just recently certified as a tax preparer and am working with a firm out of jersey called Truthful Taxes, so I will try to update with any info I hear about and if anyone has any tax questions please feel free to dm.

1200 to last someone or a family for 32 weeks is laughable and disrespectful. Anyone begging and arguing for 600 now? I don’t agree with that. So people are all of a sudden gonna be satisfied with 1800 over a 8 month span? No. That’s about $5 a day over that span.

Rather add that money to extend unemployment benefits and small business loans, that is where the main focal points should be. That extra weekly benefit should last till May/June at the least (around the time mass distribution of vaccines to the public will take place).

Edit - Also where tf is a stimulus package for essential and frontline workers? People are getting burnt out literally putting their health on the line serving their communities at grocery stores, pharmacies, hospitals while some are in the comfort of their homes begging for change. How about a provision for that too?

Our government. Namely these Republican senators aren’t ****. They’re going to do the bare minimum if that and screw over their constituents because they don’t fear any type of violent reprecussions for their behavior. A $600 stimulus is laughable. The fact we got the last stimulus way back in early April and nothing else to this day is a total embarrassment.

Richest country in the world, best country in the world my ***. Only people who think that are a bunch of hicks who’ve never gone anywhere outside of a 100 mile radius of their hometown.

Fact check: Failed X

-Economic Impact Payments introdued by the Cares Act is not a loan. It is funds that do not have to be repaid.

- EIP are not considered income, therefore they are not taxable by design of the Cares Act (at this current time)

-Form 1444 is just a notice/reminder to potential eligible individuals to remember to claim their EIP.

* For those who failed to do so by the deadline, OCT 15th, they claim their payment on the taxes next season.

-Please confirm your thoughts are facts before presenting them as such.

I said this before the compensation for essential and frontline workers were the commercials and verbal pat on the backs . The politicians are looking at it like “ well we kept them working so they should be thankful for that “

That’s not how it works. See below:

Is this payment considered taxable income?
No, the payment is not income and taxpayers will not owe tax on it. The payment will not reduce a taxpayer's refund or increase the amount they owe when they file their 2020 tax return next year. A payment also will not affect income for purposes of determining eligibility for federal government assistance or benefit programs.

Yes. The stimulus is not taxable income. Thats why it wasnt taxed. It was a straight up advance and advances will be paid back.

from what im hearing from my firm, what i explained is correct. And it will be taken from your return.

Fall back from being condescending.

is cdl training where its at to make bank?

no, simply having a Cdl will get you probably like 18 an hour.

you gotta do something specialized, LTL or union construction like ready mix, dump truck or lowboy to make bank.

for every good job there is 50 bad ones. Until you get some experience more than likely the pay won’t be so great.

you will always have a job though, pay varies a ton by location as well.

if you’re good with math I’d recommend lineman apprenticeship and get your cdl there. If you aren’t good at math look at an equipment operator apprenticeship and get your cdl with that.

thats the way I’d do it at least you you’re in six figures in a few years.

a cdl won’t get you rich but you should be able to get a job making 70 or more a year as a company driver . The real money is becoming an owner operator or doing specialty work . If you live in a city with a port or near one get a Twic card . Those allow you to work ports and move products from the ports to docks . Those jobs are easily 2-4K a week . I’ve had my cdl since 2009 but didn’t really put it to work u til about 2017 .

I think about going out on my own if I leave the twin cities, the pay here doesn’t make it worth it for me to own my own truck.

but man those repair bills and insurance...

I’d probably want to stick with Lowboy’ing or maybe dump truck. I only like construction. :lol

I hop you're joking :lol

so they give us money... just to take it away on taxes?

so am I going to owe? I thought it was tax free?

I was trying to be polite, which is why I said " please." I know how things can be misinterpreted in text format tho.

EIP IS an advance tax credit against your 2020 taxes using prior years return (2019, or 2018, which ever is applicable). That's why you can claim it on next years taxes for those who haven't received it this year, next year. (They did this to have the money go out quickly). But it DOES NOT have to be paid back. Its just a tax credit that was issued in advance.

My info is sourced from irs.gov/coronavirus/economic-impact-payments, barrons.com and 1040.com

You can list your documented sources. I'd like to review it.

My colleagues and I have run different scenarios through the this years tax software.

the advance will not be taxed because when you enter it, it will not be added to your total income. For example if u made 20,000 this year and report that you got 1200 stimulus, your taxable income will not be 21,200. It will still be 20,000.

the stimulus was an advance. It is not accumulating as a credit.

i realize that this is hard news to except. But the software doesn’t lie.

I just spent 8k on preventive repairs yesterday ( brake chambers , hub seals , fifth wheel , oil change , filters and tires ) . But yeah insurance , fuel and repairs will eat you alive if your not on tops of it and you got a bad driver .
