Official 2023 Chicago Cubs Season Thread Vol: (17-17)

All things bein equal, we've had a terrible first half, and are a game out of first.

In the next 2+ weeks, we get back Zobrist, Heyward, Hendricks, and Schwarber. (and technically Bryant since he may be out a couple games here)

And you know Theo will likely make a move to add pitching at some point. So it is possible we go on a run to win the division. We won't be the top dog in the playoffs this year, but remember the Cards a few years ago winning the world series as an 83 win team. In the playoffs, random **** happens. Hell, we won 103 last year and almost got knocked off in every round.

Zobrist back, Heyward rehabbing, Schwarber with back to back 2 homer games, and Hendricks back after the break.

Add to that only Wade Davis at the ASG, MUCH more rest for the entire team this year. That will help.

And Ian Happ is mashing.

Plus we all know Theo will make a deal or two to improve the roster this year as well as next.

And Montero traded to the Jays for a PTBNL.

Just need to get to the break within a game or two, then let nature take its course.

Schwarber bein called back up. :pimp:

Interesting, Lackey won't start til after the All Star break, so they DL him to make room for Schwarbs. (He has a foot issue, why he came out after 79 pitches yesterday)

Hendricks will be back after the break too.

If they're ever gonna make a run......

There is a lot of smoke-rumors about Verlander and his personal catcher Avila bein watched/followed by the Cubs brass. Like 70 mil over the next 3 years tho. :x

However, with Jake, Montero, and Lackey all off the books next year, and potentially Davis, Uehara and Jay could be as well, it would work $$$ wise, but not sure about a 34 year old with high mileage. :\

Would depend on the cost (Prospects) I suppose.

Bryant with 4 hits including 2 homers, and Rizzo adds one of his own, we get back to .500 at 43-43.

Even better news, Cubs sign all 11 of their early round picks, meaning everyone slots into the org and begins developing. Great news.

So, at .500 with Jake and Lester to close out the first half. Jake couldn't hold a 2-1 lead after back to back Happ-Schwarber homers, and now Lester's turn......

He gives up 10 runs in the first inning.

Un. Believable. Truly, incredible.

42-44 going into the All Star Break. Meanwhile the Brewers lead our division. :smh:

Truly curious how Theo handles the deadline, buyer, or seller? 2-3 more weeks we'll find out.

Maybe Theo should be a seller. i really don't see us buying and improving. this team lacks leadership. Looks like not resigning Fowler was a bad move. i don't know man. Lets see how the 2nd half plays out. The break for this guys is well needed.

What are you going to sell? Lackey? Arrieta?

Let's see if they can get it figured out. Hendricks coming back, and maybe they can get Lester and Arietta some rest. These guys are just terrible after being worked late into the season.

IF they were to sell, Jake and Davis would be worthy sells because both are free agents 2 months later.

Jay, Uehara, and Lackey are other possible sales, but much lesser returns.

Quintana's first start today, bats look good first two games outta the break, hope it keeps up for Q.

what a start of the 2nd half....they needed this start...hope it keeps going. boo crew lost yesterday too.

4.5 back and counting.....

So far so good. Kyle Hendricks threw 5 perfect innings. Get him back, Lackey to the 5th spot and Monty back in the pen, :pimp:

Bats seem to be picking up a little....:nerd:
