It's tricky though. There's a legitimate risk the transfer portal and this year over year turnover will do permanent damage to the sport and it's fanbase. The few players who are going to make it to the NFL are also probably trading permanent damage to their brand for the immediate payday.

The NFL is a faceless league. Where college differentiated itself was people had deep personal attachments to the players and teams that led them to continue to follow those players once they graduated and if they went pro. Kids don't have the foresight to see the damage the mercenary trend of the sport is doing and NIL agents don't care because they're trying to bleed every drop before the well is dry.

There's a reason no one cares about the spring football leagues or arena ball.

Disclaimer: I want the kids to get their money. But I also recognize actions have reactions.
I hear you and agree that there are consequences that need to be discussed. You have always been pro these kids getting paid so I appreciate your input. I just think that if a kid can get life changing money for himself and his family he does that even if it means transferring a bunch of times. I suspect that many of these kids won’t pay pro ball and the sport is dangerous no matter what so do what you have to do.

My perspective has changed to a wait and see approach to see how these NIL deals are eventually regulated. These young people have traditionally played for nothing more than an “education”, which is important while others made millions and on aggregate billions. Factor in the non guaranteed nature of scholarships and hearing horror stories of universities dropping players from medical coverage once they graduate, I’m willing to accept the nonsense of the new system even with the unintended consequences.

You make a lot of great points here. I know a lot of college football fans will say "well that's how the NFL does it"but even in the NFL every player on every roster isn't an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season (which is basically what we're doing in college football now).

From a business standpoint, college football has a uniquely different value proposition from the NFL and college football is willingly giving that up. College football is becoming the NFL with inferior players. Like you mentioned, there's a reason nobody cares about the XFL, UFL, Arena League, etc.

I also fear for the fallout for the non-football and men's basketball athletes. Once we start revenue sharing a lot of colleges are going to just cut the majority of their non-revenue generating sports. A lot of the people I know growing up only got the opportunity to go to college because they ran track, played soccer and participated in other non-revenue generating sports.

What happened to the game I love :smh:

The difficult part with the wild West nature of the current NIL landscape is that there's no transparency. Because of the CBA in American pro sports there is salary transparency so players have a better gauge for what their value is. A backup linebacker in the NFL knows that asking for $20M per year is unreasonable because he knows how much the average player at his position makes.

Currently in college These players don't know how much they're actually worth or, worse yet, they have an agent or handler in their ears telling them to make outrageous demands and transfer If those outrageous demands aren't met.

I don’t got any issues with this NIL era, just hope the players are being smart and listening to the right folks…Go ahead and ask for whatever you want but don’t end up like the UNLV QB earlier this season that was feeling himself too much :lol :{

Ain't no way...
