To be honest though, 2025 is about to be one of biggest years in sneakers in quite some time. Especially in the last 2-3 years.
I could be wrong but I think it's personally needed for retail spots to thrive in today's climate.

Call me crazy but I'm closer to calling it quits than ever.
I have been saying for the last two years that I would stop when the hype came back.
For the last 2 years I've been getting just about everything I want on discount.
Now I can't even get my hands on **** at retail. Mind you most of what I'm going after is the 3rd or even 4th iteration of sneakers I either have or have had previously.
I paid resell on bred 1s and don't see myself doing much more of that in the near future.
Nike been telling me they don't care for my money since the NDC release days, its time I finally started to listen.

Basically where I'm at.
I don't have it in me to go through the hype cycle again. Not that I don't like the shoes anymore because I do but I don't feel like running around town on my Saturdays.

this has changed for me over time, but when i got into sneakers in 2005 part of the allure was having something that other people didn't, not so much perceived resale value. the fun was the hunt and wearing them out and "breaking necks" or getting IYKYK nods.

This is where I'm at with it now, big reason why I kind of gravitate to other brands and silhouettes.
Don't get me wrong, I still love my Jordans and Nikes...just at times feel like people wear them for the "wrong" reasons. And who am I to say that?

At a certain point, if you have a DS or VNDS pair of a previous retro, it doesn’t make sense to buy a release you barely or never wore the last release of simply because of incremental improvements that aren’t going to make you want to wear them more. The only exception here is comfort but we all know you shouldn’t be wearing retros for that aspect of footwear, really.

This is basically why I skipped the recent black toe retro. I still have DS 2016s or whatever and it just doesn't make sense to spend the moneybjust because of the tongue.

I can’t believe I’m defending this but I do think Nike/JB intended for this to happen since they know MJ isn’t as culturally relevant to younger people now as he was to younger people in the 80s-2000s.
That’s why they leverage limited quantities with brand collabs and other popular celebs. Some of the Jordan Retro collabs work (O-W, Travis, etc.) and some of them don’t (basically all of Billie’s Jordan collabs). That said, the majority of them seem to hit and not miss so I understand why they use this strategy to keep the brand relevant since they know resale will attract people who otherwise would not care about sneakers at all.

Yeah I should've used the metallic 5s as a better example. I do think the recent retro looks better (and 5s certainly show their age). However, I've had that shoe 3 times already. I just sold the previous retro last year for 100 because I wasn't wearing em.
With me getting older and the economy being uncertain I've had to start being smarter about what I will and won't buy even on sale. Skipped last year's black and cement 3s as well.
