Official Air Jordan 1 Retro Low OG Thread

Finally grabbed a pair from Hibbett.

Was going to sit this one out because my feet are starting to hurt and I need to start focusing on comfort over style.

But I just couldn’t help myself.

This will probably be the last pair of Jordan 1s I buy for a long time.

At least until the 85 Chicagos come out.

Oh I got you, yeah, no idea. I chalk it up to people just being dramatic/funny, or maybe they're younger and think that it was normal when Jordan 1s would disappear instantly on these drops, so they see availability as a failure.

It’s because people have largely moved on from
Jordan 1s as they aren’t trendy anymore which equates to weak resale value. Therefore the consensus starts to become that they are worth less than the retail price they are being sold at.

People who love the model regardless of if they’re stylish or not should be happy about getting them for retail or below tbh. It would be a lot worse if you had to pay double for this release for resale like you probably would’ve had to do if they released in late 2020/early 2021.

I've probably been building a Jordan 1 collection since the OL/NL pack in 07. It's by far my favorite model.

As someone who has been a fan of the model for this long it's great to see it go back into obscurity from pretty much the 2013 royals release to 2023 1s continued to trend upward making it harder to get the colorways I desired. Seeing them and other coveted Nike models sit on shelves is a dream come true for a guy like me. I still buy what I like but now i can usually buy it xheaper, I'm happy to be outta the dark times that came with hype.

Yep. I also won’t be surprised if Nike/JB value the model or start making it really limited again. They’ve been doing the latter with the 17s and even the Steel 10s, both of which sold out and people are hilariously now coveting lol

OG Highs especially are rotting at that $185 retail pricepoint. I legitimately think the last non-collab release to sellout at retail were the Lost & Founds almost 3 years ago.

It’s hard for me to wrap my head around the fact that it was so easy to get the Chicagos.

My mind still thinks it’s 2021.

I think it worked with the steels since it had been a min since we had them. I watched the Seattle's go on sale in 2019 (their first ever retro) I highly doubt jb can make the 10 an it shoe by just keeping pairs limited. We've seen way more 10s than I ever imagined would exist.

It works with the 17 because it was a well liked Jordan even at release and there haven't been many retros at all.
 
Got dammit. I think I’m gonna either give these away or donate to Goodwill and bite the bullet and go and get the real thing. Some customs I made years ago using the gym red pair lol

I mean they literally used this strategy to pump out limited (non-SB) Dunks to hype the model in 2020 and it seemed to work for awhile before they completely flooded the market with GRs. They were even able to increase retail prices and decrease material quality while doing so, which allowed them to basically print money with GR Dunks during the peak Panda Dunk era.

All this really took was making the Dunk drops limited and getting the model on the feet of the right influencers on TikTok, etc. They could absolutely do this with the Jordan 10s if they played their cards right. The issue is sneaker culture as a whole is quite segmented rn so it would definitely be harder than in 2020 when Nike/JB had peak hype as a brand.
 
True, trends today have nothing to do with comfort, looks, durability, usability, etc. it’s all about flooding the airways with advertising
 
I wonder if Nike/JB pays some of these Instagram/TikTok clowns money to push product hype out there way in advance for them.
 
I saw the Jordan 1 Chicago low in person at jd sports. Beautiful shoe. I’m so glad I ordered a pair. A lot of shoes sit but I truly believe this is one shoe people will regret not copping in the future. Nike did amazing job with these.

I don’t see the Jordan 10 as being a silhouette that would ever catch fire with the general public, even with JB’s marketing machine behind it.

It’s too bulky and was never a big shoe outside of the sneakerhead community from what I remember.

They tried to turn the 2 into the next big thing and it failed miserably.
