I hear lossless is the way to go. Is this the same as EAC?

Also, I know having the right quality music is worthless, though, if you don't don't have the right hardware and accessories to drive the sound. I just picked up the Ultimate Ears TripleFi 10 from Amazon, so hopefully that's a start. Will the iPhone be able to deliver the best possible sound or would I need to buy an amp? If so, what are some good portable amps?

I hope this thread will open up our ears to a whole new world of sound.

Bought these two weeks ago. Absolutely no complaints. However, it is my first pair of higher end headphones so my opinion might be skewed.

Obviously, there are better forums suited for this discussion but I'm curious to see what people say about portable amps. I almost pulled the trigger on the triple Fi10's off amazon but I hesitated.

You're going to be a lot better off at the head-fi forums than here if you want to learn more.

I should also warn you that the build quality of ultimate ears got pretty bad after Logitech acquired them. They still sound great but I know people who have sadly had these fail where the wire connects to the earbuds or to the 3.5mm jack, and they paid full price for theirs! 

They only come with a 1 year warranty, so just be gentle with the connections. Don't let that deter you from keeping them, they sound amazing.

EAC is Exact Audio Copy, it rips the cd slowly so that it can rip it completely accurate.

Amps, the good ones get pretty pricey, good ones start at like $200+

though it seems everyone is talking about portable audio, you don't really need an amp if your player can drive them properly, under 32 Ohms, a decent player should drive them fine, any higher and you would need to turn your volume higher when listenining.

What's really important is the quality of the songs you play, garbage in, garbage out, the player you use, doesn't matter as much, just don't buy a crappy player.

Also don't think that there's one set of earphones or headphones that suit everyone, everyone has a preference. I stopped using a perfectly capable set of earphones because I didn't like how they sound, though they do sound good, I prefer a neutral sound, and the earphones I had were dark and warm sounding, which i didn't like.

Also with higher quality equipment, your more likely to hear the imperfections when playing mp3s, so one would either need to get a higher bitrate mp3, or look into lossless (flac and alac for example.)
