~~~*** Official Automotive Thread ***~~~
This is what I replaced it with..purchased 11/14/07, this was when it was a little over a month old, after a drive out to Park City, UT.
It has not quite been 2 years since then, and we've put 41,500 miles on it in the time span.
Electornics really my car runs pretty well probably needs a tune up realsoon.. but other then that just my navi and cluster act funky at times and the motor on my navi runs constantly once the car is off so if i let it sit morethen a day my battery is DOA and is killing the life of my battery.. i got a diagnostic that cost me (400 bux) and they told me itll be a 1899 if i got theparts direct and only 500 of that is labor so i might as well find the parts and have them throw them in their which im hoping to cut off at least 100 of thatprice tag.. i tried bimmer forums and others they are just real sluggish with responses
This was my old Camaro that I disowned after it started giving me too many problems. Pictured is one of the many fun times I had with it.
Did you ever find out where the leak was coming from?
Here are the pictures...they were all blurry so I didn't bother including them before, but this happened to me on more than one occasion. Ididn't think it necessary to replace all the hoses when one went bad, so I had them going out on me at different times, which probably ended up costing memore in the long run. I got raped by the dealership both times ~$120 for labor ($35 part) the first time, and then $180 parts/labor the second time. I had noother options because my regular mechanic was 60+ miles away, and I wasn't going to risk driving the 405 with a shoddy radiator hose. I put duct tape overthe leak the first time and made it fine. The second time I just filled it with water and prayed I would make it to the dealership in time.
It was a fun car to own, but it had so many problems.
camaro to a Prius? you gave up man. I could see having the 'maro as a weekend/fun car and the Prius as the daily though, but just dumping it altogether?smh
Back in the 70s my dad owned a 1973 BMW Bavaria 2002 (found a generic picture).
He said that it cost him $79 per month to maintain, which loosely adjusted for inflation translates into about $420/month today. Pretty insane.
The next time I'm up at my parents house I'll try to snap a picture of this E24 M6 that I always see parked on the street. Kind of like this one:
It wasn't worth the trouble anymore, and it was impossible for me to not drive the car fast. I got 3 speeding tickets in one year drivingthat Camaro. I kept trying to tell myself I would keep it underneath 3000 RPM and drive conservatively, but it was so hard to not go wide open throttle upevery on ramp, from every stop light, when traffic cleared up on the freeway, etc. It just wasn't worth it.
And I can admit, I drive just about the world's ugliest, least fun to drive car now, but it was the smarter decision for me. I haven't had an accidentor gotten a ticket since June of 2006. I do not have any points on my record, and my insurance is finally back down. At one point, for full coverage, it wasgoing to cost $8,000/year. I miss the v8, believe me. I hate the Prius sometimes, because you can floor it and it just won't go. The CVT takes a fewseconds to actually accelerate the vehicle so passing in quick moving traffic is a task sometimes. I do get good mileage though! Driving from the Valley toLong Beach, I slapped it on cruise control at 65 and just stayed to the far right. By the time I made it home, my average was 63.5 MPG. Driving normally,with standard acceleration and stopping, it generally yields between 48-50. If you really just floor it everywhere and go 75-80 on the freeway, it gets about45-46 MPG.
I don't mind it so much anymore because it really does prevent me from driving like a complete maniac.
