Because once the ball is touched by the kicking team, the receiving team can attempt to pick up the ball with no consequences. If the Cowboys wouldahave picked it up and ran for a TD it woulda been 6 pts. but if they fumbled it, the ball woulda gone back to the spot where the giants touched it first
