Jets, Dolphins meet for second time in three weeks
In Brief

Last meeting:
Ronnie Brown scored on a 2-yard run with 6 seconds left to give the Dolphins a dramatic 31-27 victory over the Jets in Week 5.

Streaks:
The Jets have won eight of the last 11 meetings and hold a 46-40-1 overall series edge, including the playoffs.

Last week:
New York snapped a three-game losing skid with a 38-0 shellacking of Oakland. ... Miami squandered a 21-point first-half lead and lost to New Orleans, 46-34.

Keep your eye on ...

Rex Ryan's adjustment to the Wildcat: The Jets' new coach prides himself on his defensive schemes, but the Dolphins' Wildcat formation completely flummoxed New York's defense in Week 5. Ryan will no doubt have some fresh ideas in place to stop the Dolphins' unique attack, but whether they will work remains to be seen.

Shonn Greene stepping on the big stage: With RB Leon Washington out for the season, New York will now be relying heavily on the rookie Greene to help Thomas Jones carry the rushing load. He responded last week with 144 yards on the ground and two touchdowns, but this is the first time he will face a defense that game plans for him.

The Dolphins' desperation: Miami has played very well at times this season, but a brutal schedule has left it with a 2-4 record and a firm hold on last place in the AFC East. If the Dolphins are to defend their AFC East title, they must get on a roll soon -- starting with this Sunday's game against the Jets.

Did you know?

This game features the league's top two rushing teams. ... The Dolphins have won six of their past seven against AFC East opponents. ... The Jets are 4-1 when Mark Sanchez has a touchdown pass.

Obviously the sting of last week has hurt my feelings for this game.

It's a division game, those are always hard fought, the teams don't like each other, I hope this game is as good as the last one was.

Let's try to get back on track, get that win.

Jets defense should hopefully be more prepared for the Wildcat this time around.

T.Jones and Shonn Greene can hopefully continue this well balanced Jets run game we have seen the last two weeks.

This game is our season......win, we have a chance. Lose, the Dez/Berry campaign starts

was just gonna say this. it's a wrap for the loser of this game...

I expect jets to come back and get a win after analyzing their failures versus the phins.

I can't find the damn pic anywhere online or I would LOVE to post it, but oh well.

How the hell they even reviewed that play and left it is beyond me. Shoulda been our ball and a 2 touchdown lead still. Total reverse in momentum.

Oh well. Has nothing to do with this game, just venting is all. What's done is done. I did see on SI.com though that the Phins were sending a messageto Ginn by not havin him out there with the first team for the start of practice. Hope that lights a fire under him. I know damn well Revis will be ready forhim this week.

refs made a horrible call. wonder how much money was on the saints...

oh well, time to hit those jests in the mouth.

Miami Dolphins activate Matt Roth, could play against Jets

The long, strange journey of Miami Dolphins linebacker Matt Roth is about to take its next logical step.

Roth, who missed more than 2 1/2 months of practice with a mysterious groin injury, has been activated off the reserve list, the Dolphins announced Saturday.

To make room for Roth on their 53-man roster, the Dolphins have released 2009 fifth-round pick John Nalbone. That leaves the Dolphins with just two tight ends -- starter Anthony Fasano and Joey Haynos -- on their active roster.

Nalbone will likely be added to the team's practice squad if he isn't claimed by another NFL team by Monday.

It's unclear how much Roth, last year's starting strong side linebacker, will play in Sunday's game at the New York Jets, but there was no point in activating him now unless the coaching and medical staffs believed he was ready to contribute. Roth bgan practicing last week but suffered a ankle injury that set him back.

The Dolphins likely need all the help they can get because the Jets lead the league in rushing yards, averaging nearly 190 yards per game..

Starting inside linebacker Channing Crowder, who has been nursing a shoulder injury the past week, was downgraded from doubtful for Sunday to out. Reggie Torbor is expected to fill the void created by Crowder's absence.

Roth, who has been sidelined by a groin injury since the start of training camp on Aug. 2, was viewed as the team's best run stuffer last season. Last season Roth contributed a career-high 53 tackles and five sacks as the Dolphins' starting strong side linebacker.
