I think most people understood that the gym teacher they have as coach now would be a fill-in until they got a team worthy of Riley's coaching abilities.

Somebody(a potential free agent) must have already spoken to Pat in some form, for him to even bring this up now.

That potential free agent could be LeBron James,Pat Riley has shown interest in signing LeBron this off-season. Wade and LeBron together, that be nuts.

As classless as they come. First Van Gundy, now Erik. Spoelstra's done a fine job in Miami. The Heat have overachieved big time in both of his years there.

Even though it's a long shot but if Bron says I'll sign if you're the coach, best believe classless or not, he better SVG Spoelstra in a heartbeat.

Van Gundy on Riley coaching talk: 'I feel bad for Erik'

A day after Miami Heat President Pat Riley said he could not definitively rule out a possible return to coaching, the man who Riley replaced in his previous coaching return weighed in on the matter.

Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy, speaking shortly before Tuesday night's playoff game against the visiting Atlanta Hawks at Amway Arena, said he felt for current Heat coach Erik Spoelstra.

Van Gundy stepped aside as Heat coach early in the 2005-06 season, with Riley taking over and leading the Heat to the 2006 NBA championship.

Riley then handed off the coaching responsibilities prior to the 2008-09 season to long-time Heat assistant Spoelstra.

Even before Riley replaced Van Gundy in December 2005, there had been speculation that Riley would return to guide a veteran roster strengthened by the additions of Shaquille O'Neal, Antoine Walker and Jason Williams, to bolster current franchise mainstay Dwyane Wade.

Monday, in assessing the direction of the franchise, Riley, 65, refused to rule out a coaching return.

"I feel bad for Erik," Van Gundy said Tuesday. "I know what will happen now: an offseason of speculation on whether or not Pat will coach.

"It makes it tough on him. So I feel bad for him."

Van Gundy and Spoelstra grew particularly close, first with both serving as Riley assistant coaches and later when Spoelstra served as a Van Gundy assistant during Van Gundy's two-plus seasons as Heat coach.

Of whether he could see Riley stepping in for Spoelstra, who is entering the third and final season on his contract, Van Gundy said of Riley, "That's entirely up to him."

Van Gundy said he was caught off-guard by Riley's comments.

"Did I see it coming? No, I didn't see it coming," Van Gundy said. "But I don't get surprised by too much anymore."

NBA Commissioner David Stern, who was in Orlando for Monday night's game and two weeks ago was at AmericanAirlines Arena for the Heat's playoff game against the Celtics, responded to questions about Riley's Monday comments.

"He looks great. I had a chance to visit with him in Miami last week. He looks calm. He looks rested. He actually looks happy. You're suggesting he wants to give that up?" Stern said.

Stern added with a laugh, "Well, I guess all I would say is that he's an NBA lifer, and so it's interesting to contemplate."

A request for additional comment from Riley made through the Heat's media-relations department was declined.

Asked Monday during his media session if he definitively could say he would not return to coaching, Riley took umbrage to the line of questioning.

"I'll do whatever is in the best interest of building the team here. Period," he said. "Whatever it takes, OK? I'll let you fill in the blanks.

"If some free agent were to say, 'I will come here but you must do this,' well, hell, if that happens that day, then I might have to give it some thought."

Where Riley had previously closed the door on talk of such a return, including at his induction of the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2008, he this time left the door ajar.

"Why should I give you an answer to that?" he said. "That if I do something two months from now or whatever it is, then I'll get lambasted for doing it or not doing it.

"To me, it's not important. I will do what's in the best interest of building a team. Whatever it takes."
Siohvaughn Wade files lawsuit
Associated Press

MIAMI -- The estranged wife of Dwyane Wade has filed suit against his actress girlfriend Gabrielle Union, saying their relationship has caused the star Miami Heat guard's two sons emotional distress.

Dwyane Wade called the lawsuit "baseless and meritless," and Union issued a statement insisting the allegations are false.

Siohvaughn Wade filed the suit in Chicago this week, adding yet another chapter to the lengthy divorce saga between the former high school sweethearts who separated more than two years ago. She and Dwyane Wade had two sons, ages 8 and 2, who are listed as plaintiffs.

Wade

An attorney for Siohvaughn Wade did not immediately respond to an interview request.

"Each and every allegation made is entirely false," said C. Anthony Mulrain, an attorney for Union.

The lawsuit against Union is the latest twist in a nasty back-and-forth divorce battle that has waged for years.

It alleges Union "engaged in sexual foreplay" in front of the boys, which "severely inflicted the Plaintiffs emotionally and mentally." It also claims that the boys received "medium size gifts" from Dwyane Wade for Christmas last year, while Union got "the biggest gift of all."

"Defendant has played sexually explicit roles, including roles as a seductress," the lawsuit reads. "Defendant has apparently decided to take her role beyond the films and into the home of a married man, Dwyane Wade, in the presence of his two minor children."

Damages in excess of $50,000 are being sought by Siohvaughn Wade.

Mulrain, Union's attorney, said the accusations were made about a month ago in court, although the actress was not named as a defendant at that time.

"The court ultimately rejected these claims as frivolous," Mulrain said. "Gabrielle apologizes to the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois for tying them up with erroneous claims when there are real victims who should be receiving the legal attention they need."

Trial in the divorce case has been scheduled for June, although a motion is pending to have that pushed back until September. Dwyane Wade's side remains hopeful that a settlement could be reached beforehand; many have been offered in recent years, all of them refused.

Several other matters involving the former couple are pending, including a request by Dwyane Wade for sole custody of his children and that his wife be psychologically evaluated. Siohvaughn Wade has alleged that Dwyane Wade abandoned his children and that he was "guilty of extreme and repeated mental cruelty" toward her.

"I can state with certainty that the claims Siohvaughn made about Gabrielle are untrue," Dwyane Wade said. "I am deeply saddened and disappointed that Siohvaughn has used our sons once again as pawns and is now lashing out at Gabrielle, who is an innocent party. It is clear that this is a desperate attempt to retaliate against me for seeking sole custody of our children."

A perennial All-Star and former NBA scoring champion, Dwyane Wade has a number of other lawsuits pending stemming from failed business deals. He will opt out of the final year of his contract with the Heat and become a free agent July 1, at which time he'll receive a six-year offer from Miami that could be worth about $127 million -- far more than any other NBA club could pay him.

The custody battle and divorce case, he said last week, could "overshadow" his free-agent maneuvering.

"It's going to be a very busy summer, challenging summer and important summer for my life off the court and on the court," Wade said last week. "I have big decisions ahead of me. It's not easy."

Siohvaughn Wade also recently filed a libel-slander lawsuit against former friend Andrea Williams, who claimed in a deposition that Mrs. Wade bought a man she was romantically involved with from 2004 through 2007 a car and a motorcycle, threatened to find a gun and shoot Dwyane Wade, and voluntarily entered an Illinois hospital to deal with anger-related issues.

Nottage and Ward LLC, the Chicago law firm that was recently representing Siohvaughn Wade in the divorce, has been excused from that case after citing "an impasse" and "irreconcilable differences" between attorney and client.

Let me get this right, if you were in the same shoes and LeBron (for example) says "I'll sign with your team right now if you fire your coach and if you coach the team" you wouldn't do it?

Atlanta Hawks' Joe Johnson flies onto Miami Heat's radar

The Heat, which has enough cap space to re-sign Dwyane Wade and at least two other premier players, could make a pitch for Atlanta's Joe Johnson, too.
BY MICHAEL WALLACE

mwallace@MiamiHerald.com
If the Heat's free agency flirtation with LeBron James falls flat this summer, the next-best wing player on the market is open to idea of joining Dwyane Wade in Miami.

All-Star guard Joe Johnson was noncommittal about his future in Atlanta when he emerged from an embarrassing four-game series sweep Monday against Orlando.

But amid his struggles during the series, Johnson said he would take a look at all of his options this summer, including partnering with Wade.

Not only did Johnson say he wouldn't mind shifting to a secondary role on a team with an established superstar, he also would change positions.

``That's a great situation -- you have to look at it,'' Johnson told The Miami Herald while discussing his options. ``I'm not saying I'll go play with him or him. But being a free agent, you pay attention to everybody's salary cap, what everybody can do.''

No team is set up to in better position for bolder moves than Miami, the only team in the league with an elite player in tow and the flexibility to add as many as two marquee free agents to max contracts.

With plans to re-sign Wade and with at least $25 million in salary-cap space, Miami vows to be aggressive when free agency opens July 1.

``Most of the players in this league know what Miami is about,'' Heat president Pat Riley said.

``I'm not able to talk to them prior to July 1. All I can do is use my -- I don't need to say it -- whatever it is you need to do prior to July 1, powers of positive thinking.''

Two league sources said there is mutual interest between the Heat and Johnson, although the four-time All-Star has not ruled out returning to the Hawks. Riley's priority -- after re-signing Wade -- is to gauge James' interest in coming to Miami.

Beyond that, the Heat's wish list is believed to feature Toronto's Chris Bosh, Phoenix's Amare' Stoudemire, Johnson and, perhaps, Utah's Carlos Boozer. Despite an aggressive push at the February trade deadline, Miami fell short of acquiring Stoudemire. Riley previously balked at trading for Boozer.

In addressing his free agency, Wade said he would meet with James, Bosh and Johnson to discuss where they could play next season. Wade considers Johnson one of his better friends in the league, with the two building a bond on the U.S. national team.

There is league-wide speculation that Johnson's free agency value might have dipped because of his sub-par play against the Magic. Johnson, regarded as one of the league's better shooters and versatile playmakers, shot just 29.8 percent overall and averaged 12.8 points.

Johnson also drew criticism during the most lopsided four-game sweep in NBA history for comments about the lack of fan support at games. He was booed as he was taken out in the final minutes off Monday's series-ending loss.

``We've made nice jumps,'' Johnson said. ``I just think a few more pieces need to be added to be an elite team, a championship team. We definitely need help.''

The uncertainty in Atlanta extends beyond Johnson to Hawks coach Mike Woodson, whose contract expires next month despite guiding the team to a 53-victory season.

Woodson believes Johnson would be judged in free agency by his larger body of work once the playoff disappointment wanes. Johnson averaged at least 20 points, 4.4 assists and 4.1 rebounds each of the past five seasons.

``Joe's a good free agent -- and I want him back in a Hawks uniform just as much as I want to come back,'' Woodson said. ``You can't tell a player as a free agent if he should sign or not sign. This all started with Joe. He's been the foundation.''

But Johnson also is intrigued with being a supplementary part to a team with a championship-caliber roster.

He played a supportive role in Phoenix alongside Steve Nash and Stoudemire before going to Atlanta. Asked if he could be a second or third option on a team such as Miami, he said, ``Yeah.''

``I played that role already,'' said Johnson, expected to also receive interest from Chicago, New York and New Jersey. ``It doesn't matter. You can still make your stamp on the game. I could care less about being the one or two guy. I just want to win.''

The sobering reality for alot of opposing teams fans? When the money is equal -- Miami is going to come out on top much more often than not.

They are just so many possibilities that can happen, though. Riley can even move Beasley, the cap hold of our 18th overall draft pick, and Daequan Cook to a team under the salary cap, and then we'd have enough for THREE MAX players.

Crazy stuff. July is going to be just insane.

NO WADE did as much as he can do with his team... how many heat games have you watched? how many different types of plays do the run? how many for beasley?

is it me or im i the only one that not worried about lebron coming to mia?. some reason i think its more likely wade/bosh ( same agent ) and joe johnson.... resign wright and qrich if they are willing to stay for cheap... resign haslem and find a starting PG? or is that too much money?
Heat launch site aimed at keeping Wade
Associated Press

MIAMI -- Send dessert to Dwyane Wade's table or start a standing ovation. Don't ask for a car or display your D-Wade tattoo.

These, and other tips for Miami Heat fans, are now available on a website -- www.wewantwade.com -- unveiled Thursday by the team with hopes of keeping the 2006 NBA Finals MVP in South Florida for years to come.

"We want to show Wade the love," the website says.

1987.jpg
I thought it was hilarious. ... But I appreciate it. I do, I really do.

BUMP this thread.

Some questions I have...

1) If we give Wade the max aren't we only left with $25 million?

2) When we do sign another superstar is it only going to be a 2/3 yr contract?

3) So Van Gundy was really pushed aside by Riley? I always thought it was health issues or personal reasons.

4) Is it official that Bosh/Wade/LeBron are all going to have a meeting together?

I know D. Wade is also in some other court problems with former business partners.

I'm really hoping that whatever happens this team turns into a dynasty. I have 10 classes until graduation and have been going to 3-5 Heat games a year. I want season tickets.

The all-points bulletin essentially has been issued for Michael Beasley. The GPS device was set to take him back to the last place he knew anything about dominance.

Before moving forward to the next phase of his offseason, Beasley returned last week to Kansas State.

It's a place where almost everything about basketball came easy to Beasley. But since he left, the Heat's lightning-rod forward has been struck by frustrating inconsistencies while tightroping a line between hope and hopelessness in two NBA seasons.

``I need to get back to being me,'' Beasley said of his quest to reconnect with ``that beast in college'' who averaged 26 points and 12 rebounds and expected to take the NBA by storm. ``I haven't shown nothing yet. When I find him, that Mike Beasley, you'll know. The one you saw these two years, I don't like him much.''

Beasley's search could test the Heat's patience in what shapes up as the most critical offseason in franchise history. Some professional sports teams aren't as willing to wait as long as they once did for top prospects to produce.

Just last week, the NFL's Oakland Raiders released quarterback Jamarcus Russell three seasons after drafting him No. 1 overall. There have been similar situations in Major League Baseball and the NHL.

With star Heat guard Dwyane Wade entering free agency, team president Pat Riley promising the team's ``dynastic'' return to title contention and with at least $25 million in cap space, Miami is at a proverbial crossroads.

Beasley hangs in the balance. As one of only two Miami players under contract for the 2010-11 season, little is guaranteed about his future.

The Heat faces a difficult decision with the promising but problematic forward.

If the Heat keeps Beasley, it blows a chance to carve out more salary-cap space, possibly enough to re-sign Wade and add two marquee free agents. If the Heat aborts the Beasley development plan, it confirms he wasn't quite the best fit with Wade.

Beasley admitted he has struggled to live up to expectations as the No. 2 overall pick in 2008. Players drafted around him -- Derrick Rose, O.J. Mayo, Russell Westbrook, Jerryd Bayless and Brook Lopez -- have progressed faster.

``Ever since Michael has been drafted, it seems as though he's been the most maligned player in the NBA,'' Riley said of Beasley, whose averages increased slightly this season to 14.3 points and 5.9 rebounds. ``He takes things so seriously because he reads and hears on a regular basis how bad he is.

``Anytime someone would take stock in themselves and admit to some failures along the way, as long as he's sincere and feels deeply, then do something about it.''

Riley and coach Erik Spoelstra strongly suggest Beasley would be a key part of the summer roster revival. But there has been just as much private chatter around the league that Beasley's stop at Kansas State -- where he asked the Heat to send him workout gear -- could be a layover to another NBA destination.

Beasley has declined interviews since the Heat's 4-1 playoff series loss to Boston in the first round. His last comments came April 27, when he sat the entire second half of Game 5 in the longest benching of his career.

Even then, he faced more questions about being dealt than developing into a reliable second or third option.

``You learn it's a business,'' Beasley said of relentless trade speculation. ``I've capitalized on every opportunity I've gotten here, good or bad.''

you ain't the only one

Eh if he comes he comes if not then I'm not worried.  I really want Lee from the Knicks, a good PG, and a second scoring option.  Wright comes off the bench pretty well, but he does get sloppy at times, Udonis will probably stay and I'm contempt with that because he's always working hard.  Did anyone else notice that his jumper has changed?  I feel like his release looks different.
