Report: Red Sox check in with D-Backs about Justin Uptonhttp://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/s...sox-check-in-with-d-backs-about-justin-upton/
Carl Crawford and Jayson Werth are obviously attractive outfielder options for the Red Sox to pursue on the open market but it makes a ton of sense that the Red Sox have inquired with the Arizona Diamondbacks about young outfielder Justin Upton, according to FoxSports.com.

Upton, still just 23 years old, has already played 3-1/2 seasons in the big leagues and as a 20-year-old in 2009, he hit 26 home runs with 86 RBI. He took a slight step back this season, when he had some injuries, with 17 home runs and 69 RBI but remember how young he is. Few players in the game have a ceiling as high as Upton, the younger brother of B.J. Just how serious the Diamondbacks are about dealing him remains to be seen, but the Red Sox’ interest is an expected sign that they are exploring all avenues to boost an outfield that needs plugging.

Exactly what the Diamondbacks expect in return for Upton remains unknown but it would have to be a significant exchange of blue-chip players

Halladay wins second Cy Young, this one unanimously

CBSSports.com wire reports

Nov. 16, 2010
NEW YORK -- Roy Halladay of the Philadelphia Phillies has unanimously won the NL Cy Young Award, making him the fifth pitcher to earn the honor in both leagues.

Halladay pitched a perfect game in May and then threw a no-hitter in the playoffs. In his first season with the Phillies, he led the NL with 21 wins and topped the majors in innings, shutouts and complete games.

Halladay received all 32 first-place votes in results released Tuesday by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Adam Wainwright of St. Louis was second and Ubaldo Jimenez of Colorado was third. San Francisco ace Tim Lincecum, who won the past two NL Cy Youngs, finished 11th.

BUCK, FISH: CLOSE TO DEAL
ORLANDO —
A source confirmed the Marlins Get your Marlins Tickets now! are closing in on a three-year contract with free agent catcher John Buck.

Buck had a career year in 2010 with the Blue Jays, batting .281 with a .802 on-base plus slugging percentage and 20 homers in 118 games.

The Marlins are in desperate need of frontline catching help. John Baker underwent Tommy John surgery and may or may not be ready in spring training. Ronny Paulino, Baker's right-handed hitting platoon partner, was suspended 50 games after testing positive for a banned substance. He'll serve the remaining games at the start of 2011, but the Marlins likely won't tender the arbitration-eligible Paulino a contract.

A seventh round pick of the Houston Astros in 1998, Buck went to Kansas City in the three-team Carlos Beltran deal in June 2004. Later that season he made his major league debut with Royals, who positioned him as their catcher of the future.

But I agree with you on the 7 years 160M.  I would go no higher than 5 years on him.  I'd rather just sure up the BP and get Soriano than spend money on him over 7 years.
Braves Acquire Dan Uggla
By Tim Dierkes [November 16 at 4:34pm CST]

The Braves landed one of baseball's most powerful second basemen today, acquiring Dan Uggla from the division rival Marlins for utility man Omar Infante and lefty reliever Mike Dunn

Uggla, 31 in March, had another fine season in 2010 with a .287/.369/.508 line in 674 plate appearances.  Uggla is one season away from free agency, and extension talks with the Marlins broke off after he rejected a four-year, $48MM offer.  Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports feels that the Braves will attempt to sign him long-term.  Martin Prado will step in at third base as Chipper Jones recovers from knee surgery or log innings in left field if necessary, tweets Rosenthal.  Uggla should be happy to remain at second base.

Infante, a super-utility type, hit .321/.359/.416 in 506 plate appearances for the Braves this year.  He's under contract through 2011 at $2.5MM with another possible $1MM in plate appearance incentives.  The loss may put the Braves in the market for a utility player, writes MLB.com's Mark Bowman.  Dunn, 26 in May, is a hard-throwing left-handed reliever who came to Atlanta from the Yankees a year ago in the Javier Vazquez deal.  Dunn racked up big-time strikeout and walk numbers this year between Triple-A and the Majors.  The intra-division asking price for Uggla was expected to be large, but this is a disappointing return for the Marlins.  They have succeeded in revamping their bullpen for the long-term, adding Ryan Webb, Edward Mujica, Dustin Richardson, and Dunn in recent trades.

The Cardinals, Blue Jays, Nationals, and Tigers were other reported suitors for Uggla.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick broke news of the agreement on Twitter, and Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports and Mark Bowman of MLB.com provided updates as the story developed.
