Official NT dad thread: can the dads get love

Congrats, homie. My baby girl is due in two weeks and everything's just starting to hit me now. I lost my collectible room to her, but after having all of her furniture set up this past week, I teared just thinking about everything yesterday and how my wife and I's lives are about to change any day now.

But like Chris Rock said, you have one job...keep her off a stripper pole, or WSHH nowadays :lol

Update: Officially official. We are having a baby girl. :hat

hahahahaha both yall F---'d. I got 2 girls myself, 3 mo and 2 yrs old.

Me and my boys were talkin bout it the other day. One of em has a 2 yr old daughter like me, and the other dude's wife is pregnant with his first kid (boy). Father to be was lamenting the fact that he was having a boy instead of a girl. At first we thought it was a bit weird, as most men want to have a son to pass on their family name and what not. But as he started to explain his reasoning, it made sense.

All of us grew up in fairly strict Asian households (meaning we got our *** beat by our pops growing up). Thats the way we were raised, and quite frankly thats the way we expected to raise our kids. Hell we all turned out pretty good being raised with an iron fist. But when it comes to girls, its a different ballgame man. I'd beat the piss out of my son if he got out of pocket (if i had a son) but how am I gonna do that to my little girl? Man I can't even get mad at my girls for any reason. They just shoot me that look, and I break. My wife gets PISSED at me because she's all about united front, but i'm like "LOOK AT THAT FACE! HOW CAN I BE MAD AT THAT FACE?"

Its scary. My oldest is barely 2 yrs old and she already know she won. I'm an embarrassment. My 2 yr old got her dad on lock down. She tells me jump, I ask her how high. There isnt anything in the world I wouldnt do for my girls.
haha.....I'm the same way....my daughter knows she got me (she's 3).

Yall soft b, u gotta show them that u love them but aint afraid to discipline them if they get out of line or they'll walk all over u. My daughter is 7 and my wife thinks I'm hard on her because I'm always pushing her to learn and criticizing playing, watching tv, etc. The older she gets the more I'm on her because I realize more that the system is set up against her. Being black and a woman, 2 strikes off the rip.

Did you guys wait to buy things for the baby after the baby shower(s)? We're debating to wait on buying a crib until she will be ready to sleep in a crib. We also don't want to buy clothes or too many clothes, because we've been told the baby will grow out of them quickly and the grandparents will spoil her crazy.

waiting is better. once the baby is home you'll figure out real quick what you need and what you dont. the only thing you really need right from the get go are swaddle blankets and diapers. Just jack as many newborn diapers as you can carry out when you leave the hospital and that will set you straight for a little bit. Oh yea, also grab cases of the gauze pads they give you too cause they will tell you not to use baby wipes on the baby for the first few weeks or month.

one way or another you are going to end up having more clothes than you need. the only reason I'd suggest buying clothes is if your wife/gf wants to dress your daughter a certain way and the clothes you get as gifts dont match the style shes goin for. I swear my first born was wearing the same 5 onesies the first 3 months of her life. Since they are constantly spitting up or having poop explosions you will find yourself doing laundry DAILY. Since the same 5 onesies were constantly getting washed, they constantly ended up on the top of the clothes stack in the dresser.

Nice. Thanks for the insight. I was told by a friend to take all the diapers that the hospital provides lol. Soo good to know.

Anxious as hell right now. Tomorrow is when we find out the gender, but my girl wants to do a gender reveal party saturday........im about 283636% sure its a girl

Yeah, Fozzy. I think waiting is the smartest thing to do. You will get a ton of stuff from the baby shower. Our family's took care of the baby crib, rocking chair, and other big things,so we were able to splurge for trivial things like getting a mural painted in her room, which is definitely not necessary :lol

Before my wife got pregnant, I never knew how many parties you could throw for no reason :lol If there was something to celebrate, we did it. We had a lot of fun during her pregnancy and our gender reveal party were one of the funnest since there was so much anticipation and you really can't be disappointed by the outcome. With that said, I'm sure other people will say "save that money for the baby, get a house, go on a vacation, etc...". You could do that too.

You even accepted you were having a girl? Weight off your shoulders?

Fam, the way a daughter shows love to her dad is something you wish you're gonna have. Acting like it was some sort of punishment :lol :{

I been working a lot lately and usually when I get home Lil dude be sleep and only get a couple hours with him before I have to drop him off to day care. Got up at 9:30 to go see the minions this am then the carnival then out to eat and to the park n ice cream. Man I know I'm getting old I been tired all day but u cant pay me to do it any other way. Put him in his bed I thought he was sleep he jumped up and said thanks daddy I had fun then some other stuff I couldn't understand lol. But I just added another stripe to my good dad chart, if kid had fun its a W for the both of us.

Well fellas.. I have been eyeing this thread off and on since May. Time to make it official now... i will be joining the club come January 2016.

My wife and I are having twins!! Pray for us lol.

Looking forward to sharing my experience with you guys. I know this will be the biggest challenge of my life but I am excited.

With the genetics tests we just found out one is definitely a boy . We will have to wait a few weeks to confirm the other. Praying for a girl to complete the family in one take lol

They don't lie when they say that time flies with kids though. Our little man is going to be 1 tomorrow. I feel like it was just a couple months ago when I started posting in here about him and us expecting.

Any single dads in here?
Been a tough year but getting use to it now
yes. been a single father to twin girls since they were 1 and a half, they are 4 now, it hasnt gotten easier yet. especially since they dont have  grandparents to drop them off when i need to get a break , and my fam lives 6 hours away. is no breaks at the moment  but it is what it is.  we always have cool adventures and  i love my girls even tho it is very stressful and by the end of day im tired af . still wouldnt trade it for the world and i know that sounds cliche af but its true.

If you bought clothes and diapers, get ready to exchange them, especially if your lady plans of breastfeeding.

My son came out 1 day past his due date at close to 9lbs, and he's been in the 98th-99th percentile ever since. We've exchanged all the diapers we bought at least 5 times because he grew out of the size too soon. He's starting to average out a little since he's more active but the boy eats :lol He's only 13mo. and is about 28lbs wearing 3T and a 6-7c. :{

I have 2 girls (posted pages back)...me and the wife are done purposely trying but If we had another, I'd want another girl. That daddy/daughter relationship is something else.

*edit* lakers3000 and 951guero - aint enough props out there to give you guys. I can't even imagine what it takes to raise kids without a spouse, and family being a long distance away. Salud!

DAMN, here's to hoping your boy continues that growth and puts himself through college as a scholarship football player.

Your 13 mo old is wearing the same size (if not bigger) than my 2 yr old. My 3 mo old though is catching up fast. She's almost 18lbs, wearing 9 mo clothes and tracks at 98-99 percentile on everything.

I'd rather him play basketball. And I just hope and pray that he lives to see college w/ the state of affairs in today's society :{

It's ironic because my daughter is skinny but talk and lanky. She was still wearing 24mo shorts when she was 4 due to the waist. She's 7 and finally starting to fit in normal-sized clothes for her age though the waists are still a little bit. Luckily for me Old Navy comes through w/ the skinny jeans so they'll fit her nice.
