Okay so with all the social, cultural and environmental factors affecting us in this day and age contributing to declining health of our generation I thought athread where we try to compile all health tips and strategies would be beneficial to alot of us on NT who don't keep their bodies systems in goodcondition. This isn't a thread about bodybuilding or losing weight but more just about general health which can really change some of our lives for thebetter.

So basically I just want to know what you guys do to stay healthy whether it be the foods you eat, supplements you take like fish body oil...etc.

Here's some of the things I like to do daily:
- Have a solid breakfast consisting of maybe cereal/egg whites(1 yolk optional), Whole Grain Bread, Tea/Orange Juice
- I take Fish Body Oil capsules and a Garlic tablet from GNC for Cardiovascular health and joint, hair, skin health
- Drink water, maybe not 8 glasses but atleast 4 times a day
- Drink V8
- Eat some sort of vegetables&fruits, usually broccoli, asparagus, avocado, oranges, pomegranate, cherries or whatever is in my kitchen
- If i'm home I go outside just to get some fresh air(even though it's NYC, so I don't know how fresh the air really is) for about 10 minutes ormore
- trying very hard to eat a good dinner so that I won't have to get a snack at midnite
- staying away from red meat ( I have it now maybe 1-2 times a month)

drink lots of water, no soda
i just started going to the gym again and running
drink green tea ea morning

as far as nutrition goes breakfast IS the most important meal of the day. If you eat a nice nutritious meal when you get up it really gets your day off right.I know many dont have enough time to make breakfast, so a healthy quick breakfast that I whip up usually is 1 cup oatmeal and a protein shake. That way youwill give your body a nice dosage of good carbs and fiber to keep you in check and the protein shake made with whey protein is a fast digesting protein whichwill get into your muscles faster and stop the catabolic effects of not eating while sleeping. Also folks you may want to try to eat 6 smaller more frequentmeals in order to keep your metabolism at an optimal level for either fat loss or muscle gain.

got a membership to the gym for x-mas. If I could just stop drinkin Mt. Dew id get fit real fast...

Hit the gym everyday, and gain about 15 pounds of muscle.... I've gained 7-8 lbs since october,

15 more to go

I think this thread can go a long way, if you guys can vouch for anything you eat/drink please gives us a brand or type.

I agree with Gpurp in the sense that breakfast should be the top meal you eat during the day because if you eat a well balanced healthy breakfast it can lastyou all day so that you can turn away from those french fries or big mac. I learned that you should decrease the size of the meal you eat as the day windsdown.

Also dietary fiber is important for intestinal health and your supposed to eat about 25 grams of it a day.

Lets wait til 2009 so we can do this

real talk, haha. i took the week off of my workout / diet routine to binge on the holiday meals

but anyways... heres my everyday routine for the work week (mon-fri)

wake up 5:30 am
drink an ice cold bottle of water with my multi-vitamin
usually make some oats in a coffee cup and add a scoop of chocolate protein for flavor
brunch: usually grab a handfull of almonds or a yogurt to snack on
lunch: depends on wat im in the mood for, but 3-5 days of the week im at the deli, usually getting a chicken salad or a sandwich
afternoon snack: usually drink a protein shake
dinner: small portion of whatevers on the stove when i get home
gym: split days, lift weights mon-wed-fri, cardio 6 days a week for 40 minutes at least.

also i cut out all sodas in june. so since then ive been only drinking water. occasionally a glass of tea or a glass of juice. but thats rare.

can anyone offer solid reasons for why post-"Supersize Me" fast food is bad? High in calories yes, but other than that most places have cut out transfat and other unhealthy things in the past couple years.

other threads have had people claiming that processed Deli meat from publix (roast beef/turkey/ham etc) isn't good for you either. seems like everything isunhealthy, you just need to balance it all out.

this guy's got it. here's mine: wake up to oatmeal and a banana mid morning (10 am) apple and a handful of almonds lunch (noon) apple, banana, and ahandful of kashi go lean cereal after school (3:00--being a teacher helps you eat 5 times a day)- handful of almonds and an apple dinner (preferably earlierthan later)- two small chicken breasts, salad (no dressing), peas... keys: no soda lots of fruit lots of water healthy snacks (almonds, kashi go-lean)

I won't lie...I've been drinking coke/soda all my life. I really want to cut down, that's one of my goals. And I plan to eat alot better thanbefore. I'm in relatively decent shape, but I can do alot better. I'm going to stick to the food groups, and excercise on a daily basis. BTW I'm21, 5'9, 155 lbs. Let's keep this thread alive.

i'll echo what's already been said: cut back on soda/cola/pop and start drinking water instead.

also for the past month ive been taking hydroxycut hardcore, 2 pills in the morning and 2 pills before my workout in the afternoon. havent experienced any ofthe neg's i read about online but i have noticed a increase in my metabolism and also ive had alot more energy during my workouts, so i guess thats a plus
