I think Mangini has gotten some what of a raw deal both places he has gone but I don't really want him as a coach.  As a DC, hell yeah I'd take him.

^ i want someone defensive minded as the head coach..

with mornhinweg, we keep someone there who knows the offense and thus can have some continuity there.. but we obviously need someone to get on these guys to stop the turnovers.. plus a defensive guy would prob be more inclined to encourage the OC to run the ball

i hate our coaches...
When Asomugha was on Fitzgerald
Nnamdi Asomugha was matched up on Larry Fitzgerald for 20 of 46 pass plays. (David Maialetti/Staff Photographer)

I went back and looked at how exactly the Eagles covered (or tried to cover) Larry Fitzgerald in Sunday's loss.

The big question today, a day after, has been: Why didn't Nnamdi Asomugha just shadow Fitzgerald the entire game?

And it's a valid one.

By my count, Asomugha matched up with Fitzgerald 20 times out of 46 pass plays. That doesn't mean he was always in man coverage, but, from what I could tell, on many of them, he was. On those plays, John Skelton targeted Fitzgerald just twice, and both were incompletions.

In other words, it sure looked like Asomugha locked down Fitzgerald when he was covering him.

On the final, game-winning drive, Asomugha was actually on Fitzgerald quite a bit. One of the key plays in the game was the 37-yard completion where Fitzgerald got past Jaiquawn Jarrett. What makes the Eagles' coverage on that play so puzzling is that Asomugha covered Fitzgerald on the previous six plays of the series, and Skelton threw at him once.

It wasn't as if Fitzgerald just happened to be lining up on Asomugha's side of the field, either. On three plays during that drive, Asomugha moved to the slot to cover Fitzgerald. On one play, he followed him all the way to the other side of the field. It certainly seemed like the plan on that drive was to keep Asomugha on Fitzgerald.

As I wrote earlier today, no one in the Eagles locker room had a clear explanation about what happened on the 37-yard completion. I've watched it multiple times on the TV tape, and I am really not sure. It's clear that Asomugha was not going to be on Fitzgerald on the play. He was lined up at right cornerback. Fitzgerald was initially the only receiver on the other side of the field. The Cardinals had three receivers in a bunch formation to Skelton's left. When Early Doucet motioned to the right, Hanson began to follow him, but you can see some gesturing between Hanson and Samuel.

There was obvious confusion as Samuel passed Fitzgerald off to Jarrett, who had little chance of keeping up with him.

Here's a quick breakdown of Fitzgerald's other six catches:

1. Fitzgerald lined up in the slot to Skelton's right against Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Rodgers-Cromartie actually had pretty good coverage, but Skelton floated one just over his head, and Fitzgerald reeled it in. What made matters worse was that Rodgers-Cromartie didn't immediately focus on tackling him, and an 18-yard gain turned into a 42-yard gain.

2. Initially, it looked like Rodgers-Cromartie (playing left cornerback) was going to play up on Fitzgerald, but when the Cardinals motioned Andre Roberts to his side, Rodgers-Cromartie backed off and the Eagles were in zone. It looked like Brian Rolle intended to hit Fitzgerald within 5 yards and disrupt his pattern, but he missed. Jamar Chaney, meanwhile, bit on Skelton's pump fake, and the middle of the field was wide open for the 10-yard score.

3. Fitzgerald lined up opposite Samuel, but the Eagles double-teamed him with Jarrett. Skelton threw it up anyway. Jarrett had excellent coverage and was looking back, but couldn't come down with the ball, instead just deflecting it. Fitzgerald showed excellent concentration and made the catch for 29 yards.

4. On 3rd-and-5, Jarrett, for some reason, got matched up with Fitzgerald as Samuel floated back. Jarrett initially stuck with him as he ran his route to the middle of the field, but the Eagles pressured Skelton, who rolled to his right. Fitzgerald followed him to that side and made the 10-yard grab, even though the throw was behind him.

5. Samuel was lined up on Fitzgerald one-on-one in off coverage down near the end zone. Hanson was in the slot to that side on Roberts. The Cardinals called a screen to Fitzgerald, but Hanson did an outstanding job of reading it. He got his right hand on the ball, tried to bat it down, but instead tipped it right to Fitzgerald. I know some of you hate when I mention luck is involved, but luck was clearly involved on the 7-yard touchdown.

6. The Cardinals lined up with three receivers to Skelton's right in a bunch formation. Fitzgerald found room between Samuel and Hanson for an 11-yard gain.

As you can see, there were a number of factors involved in Fitzgerald piling up seven catches for 146 yards, including five for 94 in the fourth quarter. Tipped passes, blown coverages, bad calls and great plays by him

But given the numbers I mentioned above, it's hard to figure out why Asomugha wasn't on him for more than 20 of the 46 pass plays, considering he was having so much success.

^ And that is one of the reasons I think multiple coaches need to lose their jobs after this season
30t6p3b.gif

We put up with dumb offensive play calling for years, but now add to that all the defensive schemes that don't work it becomes very hard to win. I think we need to find a defensive minded head coach that really knows what he's doing and bring in a solid experienced d- coordinator and try to keep Marty Morningweig (not sure I spelled that right) and let him do his thing with the offense because he and Howard Mudd are the only coaches I want to keep.

And I completely agree that we should give VY a shot, either he can redeem himself with good play which would be nice to watch or he gets pounded which is also something I'd like to see. Now that the season is over I see no need to rush Vick back before he's completely healthy. I'd even rather see Kafka get some more time and experience on the field than Vick if he's less than 100% healthy

We've lost all 6 of our games by an average of 5.8 points per game. Say what you want about the defense, but the fact is that we've had a chance to win every single one of these games. It's turnovers and terrible coaching man. That's all that it is.

^ i completely agree (especially about the coaches part.. see above)..

i want to up anyone's value that we possibly can before the season becomes completely pointless.. so we have more ammo come draft time

and i honestly just want to come out of the draft with 4 (maybe 5) players from the draft:

DE - quiton coples (the big DE we need who can go with trent, graham and tapp.. and i think hunt makes roster again.. but obviously all of those guys aren't huge)

DT- devon still or brandon thompson (just 1.. DTs with actually size who can hold up against the run while also rushing the passer.. i think we go 5 deep here if we can bring laws back cheap.. so we would have jenkins, patterson, laws, dixon and 1 of these guys)

MLB - burfict, te'o or keuchley (hopefully 1 drops as a result of the amount of LBs that will be in this draft)

OG/RT - highest rated (we really only need a backup here.. since we'll prob bring mathias back for cheap.. and the other 4 spots are signed for a while)

soooooo please front office people we don''t need to bring in 11,12 or 13 people or however many picks we'll end up with at the end of the day

^ Agreed, we need quality over quantity in the draft. I hope we can trade a couple picks together to move up in the draft and grab a high-impact player at linebacker or along the d-line.

just looking at our roster.. i don't get where we would put all those draft picks IF we used them.. we have 42 of our present 53 signed for next year

and it's a strong chance some of our practice squad guys make the actually roster (chad hall, thornton and te'o-neshiem)

OFFENSE

QBs
vick and kafka.. could either go out and sign a better backup.. or we just need a 3rd string QB (we might wait until next year to draft vick's real replacement.. so he would have a year on the roster as a backup before being called on to start)

RBs
1 open spot.. mccoy and dion lewis are here.. we just need a 3rd string guy

FB
depends on what we decide to do with schmitt.. but obviously won't be doing anything flashy

WRs
maclin, avant and cooper are guaranteed to be here.. would we explore doing a swap of jacksons with the chargers?

but we need to decide on desean.. other than that we could move chad hall back onto the roster (he's on the practice squad)

OLine
4 of our 5 starters are signed: peter, herremans, watkins and kelce.. i assume we sign mathis for cheap

JJ, is gone.. since we didn't even start him at guard with mathis injured.. and his salary is just under 2 mill (obviously too much for someone not even the main backup, other than at Center)

vandevelde and justice  are backups (if we sign dunlap for cheap.. justice could be moved)

DEFENSE
CBs
Nnamdi, DRC, hanson, marsh and hughes are already here.. obviously we trade asante

we usually only carry 5.. but i could see us picking lindley back up (currently a FA.. wasn't eligible for the practice squad)

Ss
Allen, Jarrett, Coleman and Anderson.. we usually only carry 4, page is gone (i assume injuries and youth played a main reason in us keeping 5.. plus anderson is good on special teams)

LBs
we obviously need an impact MLB here.. we have all of our present guys signed and are inexpensive.. so we could easily cut and keep the rest as backups or play they proper/better positions

DTs
we have jenkins and patterson signed.. dixon is a restricted free agent.. and laws and landri are both free agents

another spot we can use an impact player

DEs
we have trent cole, tapp, graham and hunt all signed.. parker is a FA and will be gone.. i think babin is gone to because he salary is too much for what i hope his role will be in the future

cole is 29 and has 2 more years on his deal

^ i just think we have bigger needs..

even without desean, we have a solid receiving core.. but i always advocate for the 'best player available' and if that's blackmon so be it..

but i would hope that we would try and swindle a WR needy team if we are in a position to take blackmon (like atlanta's trade for julio jones).. because we need a 6'3/4 big receiver IF we are going add another 1st round WR (especially that early)

and i'm talking a calvin johnson or larry fitzgerald type.. and blackmon is listed at 6'1, so who knows how tall he'll be come time for the combine

man after watching that game the other day I'm not sure they are that good without Desean, if we could swing a trade though for someone like Vincent Jackson though I'd take him over Blackmon too. I was just saying since we do got a ton of draft picks and Blackmon is there why not go for it

Even though he hasn't done much this year our offense is much better with DeSean in the game because he's still always a threat that needs to be accounted for. Maclin has thrived this year on the 15-20 yard routes down the middle of the field and he's able to get so much room on those because every defense plays so deep cause they don't want to get burned by Jackson. Maclin has turned into a really good WR for us but he's not the same deep threat that DeSean is

i'll admit i didn't watch the last game..

but we obviously had more issues than just desean not being there.. obviously vick got hurt extremely early.. then maclin got hurt

and kevin kolb admitted he was calling out our plays to their defense on some interview after the game (yet another dumb mistake by reid and co.)

EDIT:
and there was this amongst the other dumb coaching decisions:

RoobCSN Reuben Frank

On the Eagles' only TD drive Sunday, LeSean had 5 touches (2 rec, 3 runs). On their 12 other drives, LeSean had 12 touches.

seriously andy $#$ dude

i told you guys , that vick would not make it threw the season.

Your best WR dont wanna play because you guys did not pay him......

fixed & qft

and you should prob consider this as well.. the following guys are probably not coming back next year on our present 53 man roster:

juqua parker (oldest on our roster)
Jamaal Jackson (2nd oldest)
jason babin (3rd oldest)
asante samuel (6th oldest)

-------------------------under 30--------------------------

ronnie brown (14th oldest)
vince young (16th oldest)
derek landri (18th oldest)
winston justice (20th oldest)
jarrad page (21st oldest)

33 players of that 53 are 26 or younger (and 9 are listed above.. and our long snapper is the 5th oldest player on our roster)

Personally after all the confidence players have in reid i dont think he should be fired after this bad season... However They absolutely!!! need a new D coordinator. And andy has got to realize just how much of a good rb he has

just an FYI.. these are the 10 picks we have already:

Picks for the 2012 NFL Draft

1st round
2nd round
2nd round – from Arizona
3rd round
4th round
4th round – from Tampa
5th round
6th round
6th round – from Denver
6th round – from New England

i assume we try to trade asante, jamaal jackson and winston justice (heckert always seems eager to get back all of the eagles he acquired while with us.. see gocong and dimitri patterson.. also see them trying trade for bunkley before that failed)..

maybe even babin (if the lions want another 'wide 9' DE.. only team i can think of right now that runs it)

then there is desean situation

and/or possibly vince young (of course young depends on him showing something these last couple weeks if he gets a chance to play) or anyone else for that matter
