SEASON OUTCOME

THE SUPER BOWL!!!

super-bowl-diamond-ring.jpg

TEAMS NORMALLY DO HORRIBLY AFTER LOSING A SUPERBOWL THE YEAR BEFORE BUT THIS YEAR THE STEELERS GONNA BE TOUGH AS LONG AS HARRISON'S BACK ISN'T AN ISSUE AND TROY "POP POP POP" POLAMALU CAN MAINTAIN HIS DOMINANCE IN THE OPEN FIELD.

NOTABLE "KEY" PLAYERS

Long time Steeler fan checking in. Looking  forward to this season. I like our group of receivers this year. It's a great mix of old (Hines Ward, Jerricho Cotchrey, & Arnez Battle) & young (Mike Wallace, Emmanuel Sanders, & Who's that? Antonio Brown). Can't wait to watch the game Sunday...

I'm so amped for this game tomorrow. Below is a story posted on profootballtalk.com that can be found here. He's making some good dough by NFL standards & yet he can't spend a couple of dollars to take care of those razor bumps. Damn that looks awful. He needs some proactive on his face or something. Should be a slugfest tomorrow. Quest for the seventh begins tomorrow. Can't wait...

Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs didn’t talk only about his team’s rivalry with the Steelers during Friday’s appearance on The Jim Rome Show.  Suggs also discussed the issue of hits on quarterbacks and the fines that often flow therefrom.
And Suggs said he’s fine with being fined.

“I’ll take a fine, if I get a good shot at a quarterback,

Polamalu get's a 4 year extension!!! Story on espn.com here. Looks like our corp group will be around for a minute. Now if we can lock up some of the young receivers like Wallace, Brown, & Sanders. I think we will likely be able to keep possibly 2 of the 3...Nice...

To me Kevin Colbert (GM of the Steelers) & Omar Khan (Business & Admin Coordinator aka Capologist) are unsung football guys. They do their jobs well without a lot of kuods from around the league & media. You never really hear their names when they talk about teams that draft well.

Aside from drafting guys like Rothlisberger, Polumalu, & Pouncey in the first round, Colbert has drafted guys like Antonio Brown in the 6th round, Chris Kemoeatu also in the 6th round, Mike Wallace in  the 3rd, Brett Keisel in the 7th, etc. I mean the list goes on & on.

The Steelers were something like 10 mil over the camp when camp opened. With Rothlisberger & Harrison volunteering to restructure thier contracts, Omar was able to get nice extensions done for Woodley, Timmons, & Polumalu while also signing back Ike Taylor.

As far as the Rooneys, there is no better ownership in the NFL than this family. Might be equal to, but not better. Dan Ronney once saw a father & a kid waiting at the bus stop after a game years ago & he knew the buss had stopped running so he pulled over & gave them a ride home. Also, they went out on a limb & hired a then unknown Mike Tomlin which turned out to be on point. What other teams would take change on a young black coach with no head coaching experience. What other team can say they've only had 3 coaches in 41 years (Knoll started in '69, Cowher started in '85)?

Love this team...Can't wait till the game later today....Here we go Steelers, here we go!!!

^^^THATS EXACTLY HOW I FEEL...

SMH AT TODAYS PERFORMANCE BY BEN AND THE REST OF THE OFFENSE....NOT A GREAT WAY TO START THE SEASON...

Don't get down, I commented in the Raven's thread that win or lose, whatever happened in this game wasn't goign to define the season. Guys weren't going to be ready because there was no off season. Granted, I didn't think it was goign to be that bad but the ravens did what they were supposed to do & that's win at home. We jsut got to take care of our home game. We got a looong season ahead of us. It was kind of funny after that fight when Ike Taylor had to stand behind Coach Tomlin. He looked liek a little kid in trouble standing behind his pops. Them guys are gonna get the business in practice this week. The quest for 7 continues...

I guess I'll keep this thread alive... Willie Colon lost for the season with a torn triceps, story here. Line looked shaky in the first game as it was...Next man up... The quest for 7 continues...

Over the years we've tried to keep a Steelers season thread alive here. We just can't do it. Tons of Steelers fans everywhere but like 7 on NT. Go figure.

We got beat by simple and effective play by the Ravens Sunday. The little inside stunts that every team uses, confused the hell out of us.

Sucks about Colon

Time for the rookie to step in.

everyone on the defense just looked a step too slow. one of the most frustrating games i've ever watched in my life considering the massive amount of hate in my heart for the ravens. then they ran that fake extra point and threw for a td with the game already over (even though it got called back due to a holding penalty).

the two biggest weaknesses we've had for the past few years are obviously the o-line and the secondary and they're both still killing us. hopefully these draft picks can start contributing at some point in the near future.

with all that said, even if we have a weaker team this year, it should still be enough to get us into the playoffs considering our schedule and hopefully we can finish strong.

While I'm disappointed in Colon being out, he won't be missed. All he does is miss blocks and get false starts, good riddance.

One thing that concern me about this team...

With the "easy schedule" they play, we all remember the '09 season and the Steelers' tendency to play down to their opponent. While I believe they'll beat the Seahawks pretty handily, what about after that? If you can't find the motivation and determination to go out there and beat you bitter division rival, what about the likes of the 49ers, Jags, ect? I really, really don't want this to be a "wasted" year. Hopefully the +#% whoopin the Ravens gave them woke them up a little bit.

Not going to lie if they lose again I'm a believer in karma and we need to lock this up

Although that was a butt whoppin the ratbirds put on us, I'm not worried. It's going to be a long season and it was the first game of the season in which there was no off season program, OTAs, or anything. I know there's a lot of talk about the Steelers D being old but I'm not buying that.

I don't like McFadden at CB though. Had a lot of hope for him when he came out of FSU but he hasn't amounted to much. He's always a day late & dollar short. I remember when he signed with Zona & they played Green Bay in the play offs. Green Bay almost won that game because McFadden was getting torched. Aaron Rodgers keep throwing at McFadden & & hitting his receiver. McFadden was getting picked on like a fat kid at gym.

Maybe Curtis Brown will step up & take his spot. We'll see.

This was an excert from SI.com's Peter King (Monday Morning Quarterback Column- Tuesday Edition). It's the last reader letter e-mail. Here is the column.

STEELER NATION CHECKS IN WITH A SLIGHT TAUNT. "I was curious how the Steelers beat the Ravens in every game that matters and have been in three Super Bowls since 2006, but a week one win was revenge or got the monkey off the Ravens back? Call me when the Ravens and Flacco win one in January.''
-- Bill, Pittsburgh

Ha, Ha, Ha. Ain't that the truth? These ratbird fans having been walking around beating thier chests like they accomplished something. Relax, it was only the first game of the season.

You could tell after the game that this was their mini Super Bowl
laugh.gif
. I'm not surprised that we lost, it's more like HOW we lost. Those games are usually closely contested and they can always go either way.

That being said, I agree, it's week one. Not week 12 or 13 where the game has playoff implications, so all this overreaction to the Ravens finally beating the Steelers is extremely annoying.

Oh, and how perfect is the setup for the next match-up? The media will render this the Steelers' "revenge game," in Pittsburgh, on Sunday Night Football.

Can't wait

Looks like Pouncey's boy from Florida, Marcus Gilbert will he stepping in for Colon. He's listed as 6'6" & 330 lbs. I read somewhere right after the draft that Pouncey urged the Steelers to draft him if he was available. Here's the ESPN story...Now if they can get another CB or one of other dudes steps up we'd aiight...

laugh.gif
people in Baltimore were really celebrating as if it was their superbowl...it was down right pathetic. Sure, we played a horrible game but a week 1 win and you got people in the streets celebrating?
laugh.gif

LMK when they win something important.

We need Gilbert to play big especially in the run game.. Mendenhall needs at least 20 carries this week and we need to get pressure on the qb on D.. I guarantee the seahawks are going to spread us out and try to get 1 on 1 matchups with our LBs on RBs.. It's no secret that's our weakness (look at everytime we play NE).. Harrison better come to play because with our line the way it is i don't see us scoring more than 24.. we'll see though maybe i'm being a lil too negative..

Tavaris Jackson looked kinda bad last week partly due to the Seahawk O-line, so I thing our D-Line & Linebackers will be able to put pressure on their offense.

Now if our O-Line will step up, I like our Receivers a lot & Heath Miller. Mendenhall still seems to fumble at the worst possible moment. I wasn't that excited when he got drafted out of Illinois.

All I know is that we better smash the Seahawks into the top of the draft order on Sunday...Steelers need to bounce back in a big way...

WE SHOOOULD ROLL OVER SEATTLE...IM JUST SAYING.

YEA COLON IS OUT AND ALL BUT EVERYONE HOPEFULLY IS READY TO STEP IT UP...HARRISON ISN'T GONNA WORRY BOUT GETTING FINED HE'S GONNA GO HAM...

1 1/2 SACKS FOR HIM...OR MORE

COACH TOMLIN IM PRETTY SURE GOT IN THEIR SOULS THIS PAST WEEK...

ALSO...

Ben Roethlisberger, who threw three interceptions Sunday for the ninth time in his career, should be happy to see an NFC team coming into Heinz Field. Roethlisberger has led the Steelers to a 12-1 record in interconference home games he’s started, averaging an impressive 8.48 yards per attempt and posting a 92.9 passer rating.

Seattle, meanwhile, has lost its last eight road games against AFC opponents - a streak that began with a 21-0 loss in Pittsburgh on Oct. 7, 2007.

I think the Steelers are gonna use the no-huddle offense Ben likes. Didnt see it all last week until the game was out of hand

EDIT: Also another o-line was signed

The Steelers added depth on the offensive line by signing offensive tackle, Jamon Meredith, the team announced today. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Meredith (6-5, 304) spent the 2011 training camp with the New York Giants, who released him on Sept. 3. Meredith was originally drafted in the fifth round (162[sup]nd[/sup] overall) in 2009 by the Green Bay Packers out of the University of South Carolina.
