Yup the politicians who steal money from the people everyday are SURELY focusing on auditing & convicting the rich

One group that hasn't benefited from the shrinking IRS are lower-income taxpayers. Those who earn less than $25,000 and qualify for the Earned Income Tax Credit are audited at five times the rate of everyone else, TRAC found. In fiscal year 2022, nearly 1.3% of these tax returns were subject to an in-person or mail audit.

By comparison, the average audit rate for all tax returns was just 0.4% last year.

They coming for those evil millionaires tho

It is amazing that you think this helps your argument, when it does the opposite

Lower income people are audited at a higher rate because the GOP has denied funding to the IRS so they don't have the resources to audit high earners. This problem got worst when Trump was in office.

There is a whole field of economic research on this.

You are just being a low information hot taker as usual

Unlike a certain criminal though, Biden's lawyers immediately alerted NARA upon the discovery and are cooperating. It was Biden's own lawyers that discovered the documents, not something NARA knew was missing or had asked for.
It sounds like recordkeeping across the board is a rather widespread issue, both negligently and criminally. Hillary's private emails for example were by no means an isolated security issue but the security aspect was relegated to a non-issue by everyone, particularly the people who turned it into a circus.

Right. Then he disappears when he gets hit with facts. Or just ignore those post all together.

He’s also going to be the first to cry foul that “Biden isn’t securing the border”

He already did that a few days ago when Biden visited, said his policies are the cause.

I don’t see how these dudes can say these things and shake their hands afterwards. If I was Joe and this dude was calling me all kinds of names and talking trash I’d feel like pushing his wheelchair over a cliff

I agree

They ain’t adding all these agents just audit rich people. There’s more poor and middle class people than rich people. Rich people have the resources to fight and manipulate taxes.

They just dropped report income to $600 to from like $2000 before. They haven’t changed the tax law back to pre-80s level so who are they coming after?! The middle class and lower earners.

For people that actually want to learn why IRS funding is good.
LOL at you posting that for him like he's gonna read it.

Last time he read anything of substance was probably before he graduated HS.

There are some people who simply don't (and don't want to) understand how modern societies are meant to function. They are no different than the Taliban, and our only saving grace is the fact that they are massively outnumbered.

All y'all smart people need to start having babies. It's the only way we win this.

****** is in here celebrating the death of someone they don't know because they are Trump affiliated  , but then want to claim moral superiority over the same right wing dickheads who do the same.
I know I shouldn't reply but I want to clarify. I'm not celebrating their death because they're trump affiliated.

I'm celebrating their death because they spread dangerous and false information about covid, and I'm celebrating the karma gods.

most of that is tongue in cheek. I don't celebrate anybody passing or even being ill. I just ask that in the future people learned from this and trust doctors, scientists, and others when they are sick. that is all. if this tragedy convinces at least one person to turn to proper medical treatment for themselves or their loved ones next time they are sick, then at least something good came from this.

They are not only hiring auditors.

They are hiring customer service people, people to process basic paper returns. The IRS is generally understaffed too.

They are returning staffing to a level and capacity it was before the GOP demanded cuts. To a time when high earners got audited more. This is not something new.

The tax code has changed multiple times since the 1980s. We have had major tax overhauls

The reporting threshold was a tax loophole that people use to take advantage of. You were always legally required to pay taxes on those profits. It is just the law gave people an easy way to shirt it. All they did was make it harder to shirt it. This passed in Congress.

The IRS chose to delay it for a year

The less the IRS is funded the more the tax burden falls on the lower and middle class. Tink tanks say this, leading economist say this, the CBO said the same thing yesterday

Auditing rich people generates more revenue. But those audits are more complicated so that is why the need the man power.

Millions of paper returns from last year have not been processed because the IRS is so understaffed.

This disproportionately hurts lower and middle class people

Yet people are against the IRS hiring more people because they assume that means the tax man is coming for them

The right has been extremely successful with somehow convincing regular people that austerity and systems that benefit the rich are somehow great for the average Joe.

anyway, I'm not the one laughing that it was revealed Twitter took down anti-vax tweets.

guess we're all guilty of mocking death.
