Started only betting $5 a pop then the more I win, the more I bet.

Say the line is -115. That means you have to bet 115 to win 100. If it's +115, it means you have to bet 100 to win 115.

Yeah, pretty much. +100 or -100 (mean the same thing) is even money. It's also known as a "pick" since no team is the favorite or underdog.

so let's say for example, the dodger game OP posted.

If I were going with the dodgers, i'd have to put down $200 to come up $5?

It means you have to bet $205 to win $100.

If it's a negative number (team is the favorite), you have to bet that number, to win $100. If it's a positive number (underdog), you have to bet $100to win the value of the positive number

i'm a college football/basketball and NBA bettor....i might mess w/ the nfl here and there but not like that

i won $3000+ during the nba/college b-ball season....i bet at a local bookie too...i like picking my money up the next day...forget waiting on a money orderfrom them offshore places

and i know by "NT standards" 3000+ isnt much but for a college student like myself i couldn't complain

paid for summer school and paid off the last two months of my lease

i stopped betting when the playoffs started because last season i got crushed....wish i wouldve though because this seasons was more predictable....
smh.gif
but itold myself from the jump i wouldnt so i stuck by it

and to people who start betting.....the #1 factor is SELF CONTROL.....seriously...i should've won alot more but i lost $3000 b/t 3 big east games...2 gamesinvolved GT and thats the reason i hate them right now

So true about self control. Chasing bets is probably the fastest way to kill your bank roll. I know you weren't chasing in those 3 games youlost, but I'm just giving another example of how self control can get the best of you.

Cant decide who to pick tonight.....Lakers or Magic. Its hard not to take the Lakers when they are getting 4.5 points. ALthough if there is one game the Magicshould win, its tonight.

Lets go White Sox today.......mistermj baby!! Anyone else tail him?

Read and study up online. Google is all you need really. From there, once you know your way around the numbers and the figures they throw out, research a siteyou would like to bet with. I'm on sportsbook. It's pretty good, but I've heard people who don't like it.

I'm also with oddsmaker.com, but I think it's bad luck. I only joined cause of a 200% match bonus for a deposit awhile back.

Anyway, make sure you start out slow. I recommend sticking to one division for baseball to start out like I did. Whichever you're most knowledgeable about, that way your scope is narrowed. Then when you get the hang of things and build some money you can venture off to a more wide scope...Also, like someone said, self control is huge. If you lose don't try to win it all back on one game or make a bet just cause it's fun. Be patient and if you do it right yourmoney will build. I started with $25 and bet $5 a pop for about half the baseball season last year and when I got to about $200 i upped it to $10-15 pergame..and build from there.

I'm not starting off so hot on my baseball picks...I can't for the life of me get ahold of this season. Still time though.

nahh but i knew it was too much to be betting because i didnt trust GT but i did it anyway

...i had much more success w/ smaller schools and the Pac 10

^ College Football is where it's at. Baseball just keeps me occupied really until NCAA season.

One week last year I was correct on 7 of 8 picks in a progressive parlay and missed $2,500 by one damn game. I was 6 of 6 going into the final two games atnight too and lost the final game that was on. Still took home a nice sum though. Boy that was intense...Can't wait.

damn thats whats up....only time i hit parlays is when i put 25 on it
smh.gif
....i put 100 on 4 team parlays twice during the season (nba season) and both times ilost by 1 game
smh.gif

Officially won $75.98 tonight, using $100. My parlay definitely bumped me up quite a bit, which was about $55 of that total, but I still would've came outahead...However, now I'm sitting good for awhile...PATIENCE.

Back tomorrow with my picks...Feel free to join in the fun.

the words patience and parlay don't belong in the same post.

anyways - can't wait for Delaware to get table games and sports betting up and running, make my trip only about 3 hours to a legitimate sports bettingplace... i haven't put money down on games in a few months now, i got the itch constantly though.

IMO parlays are sucker bets. I'm not saying those that bet parlays are suckers, just a difference of opinion. Sure the high payouts are nice, but the oddsare against you. Say you have a 3 team parlay, the odds of winning is 8:1, yet the payout is only 6:1.

As someone mentioned earlier, patience and parlays don't belong in the same sentence. I'd much rather grind it out at about a 59% clip, which I'vedone over the last few years than bet parlays.

It takes SOOOO much discipline and patience to be a long term successful gambler.. that and great amounts of experience with recognizing certain types oflines, trends, and movement.

I don't have the time, patience, discipline or money to ever be a long term successful gambler...at least not anytime soon. So parlays are the best way toreally have some fun - i think of it like playing the lottery, only with a slightly better chance of controlling your own destiny.

When I parlay I usually only bet about 5% of the total I have in my betting account as opposed to the 15-20% I use on all the individual games I bet, so reallyif I lose I'm not losing much at all, but if I win, it can bump me up just enough to make a good difference.

When I started out though, I was stupid about it...Thinking it was an easy way to make thousands...
laugh.gif
I learned real quick though.

If anything I would recommend betting no more than 10% of your bank roll on one game because at 20%, your roll can diminish quickly after a few losses in arow. I usually try to keep my roll around $1000 with my one unit wagers at $50.

Whatever works for you though.

I am by no means an expert. I'd belying if I said I didn't throw a few bucks down on a parlay just for @$%#$ and giggles once in a while.
