I don't think Altidore was bad at all. I think he had a particularly excellent game against Algeria. No he is not scoring goals right now but when he playing the hold up game and gave set up a couple of chances today. Mainly the one for Feilhaber beginning of second half. I agree right now he is limited but we really don't have anyone else. I mean at least he was not invisible when he was on the pitch.Originally Posted by Carlos Tevez
I think a wrote a post here earlier in the year about the poor season Altidore was having. I'm not saying he deserves all the blame but he definitely deserves some of it. Simply put, you cant have players bench warm relegation bound teams during World Cup years and then expect them to do much against world class opposition in June. Players like Dempsey and Donovan had great club seasons and continued on their fine form in the WC. Altidore had a terrible club season and so it was no surprise that he did absolutely nothing in the WC.
As for the U.S. team, their is some promise going forward. The team and the MLS are obviously getting better and they should continue to progress in the coming years. I think the negatives are pretty obvious for U.S. fans. The central defence is very weak and the U.S. need a striker that can create chances from nothing and can bang in chances. Maybe Altidore will improve in the future but right now he is a very limited striker. Gomez is better IMO but I guess Bradley wanted Altidore out there due to his size.
Remember that soccer powers aren't born over night. The U.S. program really began taking off in the early-90s so it'll take a bit more time before the U.S. can really begin to think about challenging the best teams in the world.
U20s are looking very strong. There are more foreign-based kids in the player pool than I can ever remember seeing.Originally Posted by RetroBaller

It's just after keeping up with the EPL since 03, it's irritating seeing the pace of the game here in the states.
I mean hell, HDC isn't further than a 10 minute drive up Del Amo and Avalon
