has anyone played half life 2? do you think it holds up to this day?

i just bought the orange box on disc (its not available digitally) since I never played HL2 despite it being an iconic game
I own it digitally, bought it before it was delisted.

Besides that, I haven't played it much. Maybe a hour or two max. I would say it still holds up, but don't take this as a definitive opinion.

Half Life 1 which I played on PS2 I believe was good.

lol…. Could you imagine?

GeForce Now has had a ad support free tier for like over two years now. This isn't new. Xbox launching one has been rumored for for years.

Y'all just using whatever comes across your timelines to console war :lol

It is free though

So it seems like a good way to demo games before you buy them.

Also, games like $70-80 these days. Folk, easily young people getting price out the hobby.

Not gonna look down on people getting cheaper options to play games.

-Also, they aren't announcing anything. They are asking people to volunteer for testing a potential service.

I don’t see an issue with a few ads but I’m sure if the service takes off, it’ll go from 2 minutes to 3 minutes to 5 minutes etc.

Twitch probably isn’t the best example but it’s damn near unwatchable if you’re not subbed. You get hit with 3 minutes or like 8 ads as soon as you load up.

YouTube is pretty bad too but you get to skip the ads after a while or use an adblocker.

Okay but I that case I think people should wait...

A) For the years to past and it actually becomes a reality of the service

B) For the service to take off

C) For the service to actually launch

Twitch kinda depends on the streamer, they have a decent amount of autonomy in how they set up their ads.

You actually don’t have to force people into watching ads as soon as they load up the stream. That’s an option, not mandatory.
The alternative is selecting a specific time within a timeframe, after all you do need to run a minimum amount of ads per hour.

I’d have to check with some streamer friends for the exact details on the minimum ad time but it’s really quite manageable if you turn off the ads on startup and just them at set times.

If I recall correctly, the minimum is 3 minutes of ads an hour but you have a tiny window where you can delay them for a bit of flexibility.

Running ads on startup is bad for new viewership so it just depends on what the streamer decides. You can also just do both the startup ads and run multiple ad breaks an hour for longer than 3 minutes each.

I played HL2/Orange Box on 360 so my opinion may be outdated but it definitely still held up imo. If I remember correctly the controls were a little wonky but gameplay was still fun, lots of environmental puzzles and stuff like that along with the combat. The story was a strong point for me too as a sci fi fan. And fwiw I never played HL1.

I think Portal is in the Orange Box too, definitely play that if you haven't already (and get Portal 2). Those still hold up for sure.

i am going to have to do this

i tried playing Battlefield Redsec other day and soon as i boot up it over heats and shuts xbox off instantly.. only game though - i can play MLB for hours, Apex and NBA with no issues

just redsec
I think HBO max was causing mine to overheat (strange it’s only certain apps or games). I did replace the thermal paste as well since I already had the whole system disassembled.

Not difficult but it is tedious and just be sure to have nice work bench and a air compressor (use outside for your own sake) for all the parts

Only issue I have with my Series X is the disc drive is wonky.

Usually been pre-installing games through the app and playing the disc to boot it up.

Could probably buy a drive cleaner to fix the issue.
