those are great #s for a debut. only his fans expected higher numbers for obvious reasons. but for a debut, those are GREAT numbers.

well technically it's not a debut for him though. he's been exposed for more than a year plus with several hit songs in the mainstream. he's technically established.

understood. but he's been exposed to the mainstream audience (not just underground) for more than a year. people know and check for him. and b/c there was so much hype (don't know by whom), people expected more.

yea... people need to understand that hype only gets u so far... his singles are lightweight garbage and he still went damn near gold in a week... thats the buzz working right there... if he had singles that were actually dope he wouldve sold a bit more...

find your love is #5 on the billboard this week. if top 5 for a hip hop song is not a hit, what the hell is a hit? and this song was released before the album release.

the thing is his album is pretty average (outside of find your love or karaoke, none of the songs can be commercial). check the ratings on places like amazon or itunes. it's like 3.5-4 out of 5. the word of mouth just isn't there.

compare to em's album who sales increases day by day this week. it was predicted 600k, then 650k, now could be as high as 750-800k. and fans' ratings of recovery have been high (4.5-5).

He'll have good numbers for his second week.

I say 150,000+ plus.

If he keeps hitting 50,000-75,000 after that every single week, he'll be plat in no time.

This the thing about having "hype" though. Hype can kill you just as much as it can help you. People wanted the album and they wanted the album now. Then the album was out 2 weeks before it hit stores? Everyone downloaded it. The fact that he got 400k people to buy it proves to me he fulfilled his hype. He had a lot. But hype doesn't guarantee success.

Not to mention dude is a pop artist. Pop artists usually have weaker first week sales than this but their albums have such staying power that they can be double and triple platinum by the end of the year. Drake has a lot of potential #1 hits on his album.
