old lady got me shook about my IDS major vol. pls help

Truth is you don't need a degree to make beats OR music.....

this is definitely the truth and i definitely feel silly for not going into college with a clear defined path to get a job...marketing and comm i kinda fooled myself into thinking that they would applicable to what i wanted to do (running a label and whatnot)...shoulda strictly went in tryna get an IT job or something

but you need money to push that **** and network or even just survive and pay bills in a big city...thats infinitely harder on a mall/retail job type budget than a desk job type budget that often comes with a degree.

but believe me i feel you. i just wanna drop everything and move to the A or NY in my heart. Even if I’m on some day to day **** at least I’m making tangible physical effort to go for my **** while I’m still young.

this school **** just seem like I’m going this hard for a plan b/not even what i really wanna do

Draw out what you’ve succeeded most in life. Whatever your gaining more in, finish that program. Completing **** gives you confidence. Then you’ll know what to do

What people fail to understand with a degree they don't know how to use is that there is always a need for teachers. If you gonna continue to be in school and want to use that major, consider teaching

Yeah I highkey wish that was my major from jump I probably would have graduated on time. Switched from Marketing to Comm to IDS

I feel like everyone born after the mid-80s has a base understanding of IT just from recreational **** they did on the computers like downloading music/software, social media coding, etc.

What are some specific IT jobs/duties?
A lot of different roles, ie if you're starting at help desk it's answering calls and emails, responding to tickets for help, essentially fixing software or hardware issues. Then there are the next steps like system admin, networking etc. You can check out the Information Technology thread we have here, some good info.

Finish your degree, get a cert in I.T and do your beat making on the side. Common theme in your posts is you don't want to work hard. If you do work you love your not really working. Maybe go back to school to become a sound engineer or maybe get a mba. If your not good at math then become better, get a tutor, work on whatever weakness you have. If you want success you gotta work bro. Think you may need to lay off the weed/ clear your mind.

IT help desk seems (operative word) like a chill job. Every time I walk by they are chilling.

Maybe do that and make beats when not on calls?

Try going to audio engineering school. Running recording sessions can be pretty technical. From one mic and a rapper with all the razzle dazzle they put on trap beats to live sound/stage to recording bands. And that's just the music side.
It will keep you in the area of your passion .plus you may find a niche in that area that you never thought about.

Don't fall into that trap thinking you're gonna have a safe job and work on your hustle after work.

It works for some but you really got to sacrifice a lot.

Making beats on a computer is easy.

Running a session on professional studio equipment takes skill that most don't have the time or patience for.
