ONE ON ONE - Who's the best basketball player of all time?

Playing one on one is stupid anyway. Doesn't show anything.

lol what? never played one on one with a friend or foe?

it's one the most competitive and fun aspects of basketball. knowing that you can single-handedly beat anyone in a game of one on one basketball :smokin

wassup with the joke answers though...:nerd:

this is a serious question about who has the best well-rounded individual skills and talent to be able to beat any one else in a one on one game of basketball.

like who wouldn't pay big money to see a one on one game of LBJ vs. Durant, Kobe vs. MJ, MJ vs LBJ, TMAC vs Kobe, etc....

I'd say it gives us a very concrete answer on who could be the best individual basketball player of all time instead of just looking at stats and rings...

the question isn't specific enough. As mentioned by other people, what is stopping a big man from steamrolling a smaller player. Beating someone one on one doesn't always mean the person is better.

I used to think guards, but not enough body.....they would lose to hakeem or david robinson one on one. Post up, jumpers, and blocks all day. Once they get the ball on offense it's a wrap for smaller defender.

Was that legit?..man I remember I was in 5th grade, I was hurt when it didnt happen

I really think you all should break this down by position.

Obviously a 6'6 SG won't beat a 7'1 C

My list
PG Zeke cause he was a bit more defensive than AI
SG Bean for the fact he got a lil more range than MJ
SF LBJ I hate dude but pound for pound he is almost unstoppable and can stop any other small forward I can think of
PF KG in his T wolves days.
C I won't put Wilt cause I'm trying to stay in a post 1980 timeframe so I'll say Hakeem

This forum has a whole section called JORDAN brand. The shoes on this man's feet are pop culture treasures. You had a CHAMPIONSHIP team create JORDAN rules to stop ONE player. A all-time great, Larry Bird, referred to him as "God disguised as Michael JORDAN." But you kids keep letting the name Kobe Bryant slip out of your mouths when your beloved, self-named "mamba" has patterned his whole game after JORDAN. SMH. You speak of one-on-one players when Jordan's knock his first 5 years was that he was a one-man show and didn't play team ball.

The answer here is clear.

Hakeem Olajuwon. LOL

i would pick prime kareem. that skyhook is unstoppable and hes not a horrible defender neither

See that's why Hakeem is probably the best.
Dude had good enough defense to where he can sort of stay with guards.. maybe not every time but still he would have enough length to cover. Plus add to the fact that no guard is going to stop him from scoring.
Basically if he even gets one stop its a wrap.
I could see someone like Shaq beating Hakeem, but Shaq can't match up with the dudes like Kobe, Durant, Lebron etc... while Hakeem can at least semi d em up
You serious? Have you been watching basketball long? No disrespect when I ask those questions. But, I've seen Hakeem Shake Shaq dumb*** out his shoes, a young Shaq at that. Go look up some film fam, Shaq can't **** with The Dream. Even Prime against Prime imo.

I really think sometime during all of these discussions on here some of you forget that most of these are hypothetical situations.

to this day, I still wonder what it was like watching Tim Thomas in high school

Did everyone forget Julius Erving? When he was 16 or 17 he demolished a NBA Center(name just slipped my mind)  in one on one.The pro was working out in the off season and he needed someone to play.  This skinny scrub with a huge afro destroyed the guy.

Hakeem should do well in one on one.Jordan,Kobe,Elgin Baylor. Big men who can dribble and shoot from outside like Webber or Nowitzki too.

Does anyone remember when the NBA was having the one on one contests so many years ago?  I think one year the finalists were Jabbar against Mike Riordon and Riordon won.

How would great defensive specialists like MIchael Cooper or Scottie Pippen do in One on One? Sidney Moncrief too?

As a kid I wanted to see West vs Oscar one on one. Also Elgin Baylor vs Rick Barry.
