Sup famb.

I firmly believe that online apps account for such a small percentage of people hired...

And when you get pass entry level, high turnover-rate positions like retail or sales... Then it means almost zero.

I got a friend in HR. She told me that there are thousands of apps that come through... And many times, filters kick them out.

She also said that on some highly sought positions, they'll randomly pick 1 out of 50 just to have the chance to go through the filtering process.

To all my famb out there struggling to get a job... Or want a certain kind of position... You gotta go get it.

Yeah, there's some success rate with online apps and job search engines... But you gotta be hungry... You gotta get out, find out who has your job, and talk to them.

You have to get in these people's faces.

I made this post b/c my momb was searching for a job for 6 months... Applying online to several places... I told her that those things don't mean **** and that she needs to get out and meet people.

A week passes by of her hitting the lounges and hangout spots... She has 2 interviews and a meeting with another HR person... In 5 days!

You gotta get out and mingle famb... You aint getting that dream job sitting on the computer applying...

Keep yalls heads up, mayne... :hat

Depends on the position and company

Big companies probably have a program to get some keywords from resumes and then send it to hr to review

If a position is listed on the site year round or have been there for over a month, chances are they already took someone or is in process of getting a person. This is for entry level, higher level positions can take a while to fill

If dudes on here are still in school, it's almost always better to apply through schools career center than a company site

It's unfortunate that so many people are taking the passive route of just filling out apps all day and then compaining there are no jobs. If you fill out an app, follow up with a personal letter and phone call to HR. If you don't get them the first time, do it again until you do. There's lots of data supporting that most jobs are obtained either through persistence or connections.

If you want to get really bold in the job search, actually drive the resume to the HR person and let them meet you themself. I guarantee you you'll jump ahead of 90% of the applicants from that position.

If you want a good resource to getting a job, read 48 Days to the Work You Love by Dan Miller. He goes through a 48 day process of finding a job that you'll actually like and want to work for, not just one that pays the bills.

These days its all about combining the online apps with the follow up after you put the app in...you gonna make stuff happen if you dont just apply n sit n wait

I don't know about going to the actual hr person and giving them the resume, maybe for small companies it's fine but I doubt you can go to a major corporation like JP Morgan and ask to be let in to see hr

Well that's exactly what they have. A software programs looks for keywords and when one resume has enough keywords it pops up in the system. That's why you should always alter your resume to have keywords that the company used in the job description.

True, but 70% of jobs are with small companies so you're better off applying to those companies anyways and your chances of getting hired are much better. At the same time though, I got my first job in college by walking into a branch of regional bank to request an application. The Customer Service Manager talked with me for a couple minuted and basically hired on the spot after setting up a formal interview w/ the branch manager, so it can be done.

Hmm, guess I'll start going in for a follow up in places once seasonal positions are up. Just need someone to give ya boy a chance. :{

linkedin has job postings and decent amount of the time they list the HR contact who posted it...
