Outside of Jordan, Who Has Had The Most Impact On Their Sport Vol. The Great Debate

you compare athletes from older eras to todays athletes.

Dwight Howard would destroy and 60s,70s,80s nba centers.
how? technology. those guys were playing in chuck taylors working out with dumbells eating whatever and doin whatever.

you gotta judge these guys by their era's.

cause also there wasnt much competiton as there is today.

so to say hank aaron is better than ken griffey jr is balderdash cause KGjr in his prime had much more conditioning and better access to better things to play his best.
just like a player from this era would destroy ken griffey.

you just gotta use your head when youre comparing things.

like do you really think Joe Johnson in his prime was better than lennox lewis?

HankMoody, this quote above is a perfect example of the stupid $$$# I read on here and call out.
What I said is stupid for what reason? I'm not saying he's the greatest player ever I'm saying he had the greatest impact. Which one of these athletes changed the game like Iverson did both on and off the court? Dude is THE reason for the dress code we have in the NBA now. They had to ban the man's crossover. He brought tats, arm sleeves and headbands to the league and made cornrows acceptable everywhere. He even had people rockin tights for a year until they banned that too. His impact on kids was like nothing I've ever seen. Again, I'm not saying whether it was for the better or the worse. There was people that absolutely hated him but the people that loved Allen Iverson, LOVED him. Everywhere you went to play ball you'd see a dude with The Answer elbow band with an arm sleeve on the other arm and a headband, emulating everything the dude did. Every time you turn on the TV or go to a game and see somebody wearing a sleeve, A.I.'s impact is still felt.

You appear to be using your narrow perspective, along with your infatuation with Iverson to spew your opinion off as fact. Iverson did have an impact, which were made possible by other athletes right before him. You can thank the Fab 5 for the introduction of baggy shorts. Rodman was getting tatted before the Answer. His cross-over was insane, but let us not forget about Tim Hardaway. This generation identified with Iverson and that's where it ends. He didn't bring in the casual on looker indroaves the way Jordan did. He didn't save the NBA the way Magic & Larry did. You relate to Iverson and probably emulated him, but on a larger scale, Iverson's name doesn't belong in this topic at all.

You can't be %#*%*## serious.

Iverson wasn't the reason for the dress code, he was definitely used as the vehicle to put that policy in motion.  On top of that, why would you give Iverson credit for that, the NBA and the general paying public basically got tired of seeing these dudes with baggy clothes, jerseys, tall tees, etc sitting on the bench.  Looking completely unprofessional.

He brought tattoos to the league now?  Let's not focus on the fact that tattoo's as a whole became more socially acceptable in the 90's.  Let's give AI credit for that movement (

Headbands, armsleeves, etc.  You can give him credit for that junk, and that's not a good thing.

You are giving AI the most influential award based on armsleeves..."We talking 'bout armsleeves!!"

Robinson- Broke down the color barrier, not to mention one of the best second baseman when he came in to the league at the age of 28.
Gretzky- Put hockey on the map.
Jordan-  You keep looking at those arm sleeves while ignoring the fact that you can't get that Jumpman logo off the court.  Everywhere you go you will see at least one person rocking a pair of Jordan's, whether it's an Air Jordan or a Team Jordan.  Put the NBA on the international map, the NBA blew up because he was the face of the product.  The NBA has decline, and most experts will point that it started in 1998...I wonder why?
Ali- A boxer that took the world by storm, not only for his skills in the ring but because of his charisma.

You still want to talk about %#*%*## arm sleeves?

Yes, he was better than Hank.
You are really gonna post numbers that Hank beats?  Seriously?
755 HRs
.305 AVG
MVP in '57
3771 hits
2297 RBIs(most in history)
All century team
25 time all star

and I could go on.

Hank is better than ATLEAST half of the guys you mentioned.  Easily top 5 greatest player of all time IMO.

Baseball is more than hitting a ball my man. That's why I put 10x Gold Glover. I see you didn't put Hank's because he only has 3. Plus during Griff's prime in the 90s he was considered arguably the best player in the game.

It's easy to tell you didn't read all the way through my original post. You know, the part where I clearly said "Not everybody's Top 10"
So what?  You reeled off those stats like that was the reason he was better than Aaron.  I saw you first post and understand that is your opinion but when someone questions it you reel off a bunch of stats like that make your opinion valid.  When in reality Aaron bested them in every way except gold gloves.

Tiger Woods is probably the only reason I ever had any interest in golf and picked up a club. Not just cuz he's black but specifically how he won when he was dominating the sport.

I will add that Gretzky made me a bandwagon fan of hockey in general for a while.
