Hopefully someone has information that might help or just confirm certain things for me whether they are positive or negative.

I have a family member that was looking for employment as a recent graduate when COVID shut down the US back in March 2020. Because of her kids (they were sent home) she had to put her search on hold. She applied for PUA under the reason that kids were sent home and she had to care for them + high risk.

She was denied unemployment but granted PUA ... 10 months letter she found a job and stopped collecting.

Now shes getting charged for overpayment for 1. Not providing information 10 mnths Nov 2021 after she stop collecting PUA and because according to them she didnt qualify.

In addition, she did not submit an appeal in time so she was denied a hearing and the appeal to that was denied because they said she elected electronic email and she wasn't on top of it although she was having issues logging in or receiving emails.

Just want to know if anyone has had to deal with this and the critireas for it.

A few things:

- Tell them to join local unemployment groups on Facebook, they’re not the only one
- the state they reside in matters
- write to every congressman, and senator, local and statewide, (and federal) explaining the issue, and providing any evidence, they will usually call, and/or email back
- find a lawyer and potentially file a suit, a lot of people are in the same boat, some legitimately because they finessed the system, and others are casualties of a broken system, if they are the latter, they need to find a lawyer who is already representing people in the same boat. Which they should be able to find resources like that on Facebook, Reddit, etc..
- a politician will usually b-line you into someone who deals with grievances sent from congressional offices, it’s sort of skip the line, but the line is still long, nevertheless they should be able to get in contact with a real person in the unemployment office that will hear their case and direct them on what to do next

What are the consequences if individuals don’t pay back the money? Would it go on your credit, garnish wages, jail, effect future employment, other?
