Patrice O'Neal Appreciation Thread vol. one year

he was on his way to that kevin hart money or atleast on his way to that level of recognition

so sad

one of the most insightful people ever in the game

Burr was one of Patrice's homies -- surprised Burr can say this stuff on talk shows without garnering hate

 I love how Burr always makes Connan lose his #$%^

This is just hilarious knowing they're all there sad about Patrice's death and Attell just straights up brightens up the room in one line

Think this is a different documentary than the one Von took that Kickstarter money for. Apparently she was being shady with the money and Burr and others cut her off from the Patrice fundraiser shows and stuff.

Y'all don't know **** about Patrice!

He was anti-mainstream. Never wanted that spotlight. He was good where he was at.

I remember the story of how he burned bridges with Spike Lee: only because Patrice didn't want to go behind his agent's/team's backs. He was all about integrity, imo.

Patrice isn't some unknown figure, he definitely wanted fame, but on his terms. It's stupid to think otherwise of someone who chose to become a standup comedian and moved to LA and has been in movies and TV. Seems like that world was becoming more accommodating of him as he is which is what he wanted.

This.
I wouldn't say he didn't want fame because it comes with the territory. He just didn't want to play the phony hollywood game or betray who was. It might have seemed like the world was become more accommodating but not right now. Cancel culture would have sent him back to were he was at, but he probably would have accepted that and told everyone to **** themselves.

Patrice definitely wanted the work and recognition, he just didn't want the work environment and hollywood culture/people around him. He was openly regretful about how he handled himself on some sets/not giving in at times.

That's what mainstream Hollywood is though. It's what comics like Kevin Hart and Amy Schumer became. And you see the rules Kev has to abide by. Chappelle dipped his toes into that world and wanted no part of it.
Patrice was never going to be that. He would've kept getting those 25th Hour / The Office roles at best and he'd have a popular podcast (of his own). Dude had Comedy Central, Showtime, HBO specials like 20 years ago when a special meant something. He was on top of the standup game already. Y'all making it seem like he was on a trajectory to star in big budget movies alongside Zack Galifinakis or something.
