But Jason Campbell can still poke fun at cornerbacks Carlos Rogers and Shawn Springs.
Asked about going against New England Patriots newcomer Springs, his teammate the past four years whom he faced in practice as the scout team quarterback in 2005, Campbell teased, "You know Springs. Let me see if he's going to play first. Me and Springs are good friends so I can joke with him like that."

Campbell said that he ran into the oft-injured veteran at a Washington Kastles match before training camp began.

"The first thing he wanted to talk about was 'I can't wait to play against you. All the times that we had in practice, now I get to come there live,' " Campbell said. "I was like, 'All right Springs, if you play.' "

Rogers, the other half of Washington's usual cornerback tandem from 2005-08, won't play against the Patriots with a calf injury, the same ailment that plagued Springs last August.

"I told Carlos, 'Is Springs rubbing off on you?,' " Campbell said before adding that his college and pro teammate wouldn't miss the game if he wasn't seriously ailing.

Gift...do you think there is anyway that Rock gets cut? I know he's a solid returner, but IMO he can be easily replaced. Dude has no burst/explosion.Honestly, I'd rather take our chances on a guy like Dominique Dorsey, where you know there is at least a threat of him taking it to the house....

Devin Thomas returned kicks at MSU, so maybe he can provide a spark..somewhere. We all know that Malcolm Kelly looks to be ahead of dude on the depth chart atthis point, so I guess the team is looking at different ways for DT to contribute.

Also, is it decided that ARE will NOT be returning punts this year? Dude is terrible...

*speaking of cuts, I hope Ladell Betts is gone also....Marcus Mason is cheaper, and a BETTER RB...we need to get younger at this position, and I think Masonwould be a good guy to have waiting in the wings behind Portis.

I don't know, Rock's "leadership" might be what keeps him on the team...If it were up to me, I would have cut him last year in favor ofMason, but then again, Mason not doing anything once he went to the Jets/Ravens should raise a flag...

I definitely don't think Betts will be cut either, I mean if CP goes down, I'd feel extremely uncomfortable with an unknown RB...Now Next offseason,yeah get rid of Betts and draft another.

I hear you on that....I think it's definitely his "leadership" that keeps him around. Even though he's a solid ST player, wepay him like 1.2 per year just to get returns to the 30 yard line. Honestly, I think the leadership can be found elsewhere, and there needs to be an upgradeon both the KO and PR units.

I'm not feeling Betts at all. He's our short yardage back, and he sucks. There's no getting around it. I also don't know how much I trustSellers carrying the rock, because eventho he has nice hands out of the backfield, he's had some costly fumbles when trying to pick up a yard or two. Rockis listed as our 3rd RB, but he's only had 12 carries in the past 3 years. Of course he makes his mark on ST, but like I said before...there could be anupgrade over him. I think Dorsey would be a nice option returning kicks, and Mason would be a good 2nd or 3rd back (but like u said, the red flags on Masoncause he didn't make the Jets/Ravens last year)....It will probably be Portis, Betts, and Rock this year, but I hope in the 2010 draft the Skins bolstertheir RB's amongst other things...

I really want to see Rock and or Betts cut but I just don't see it happening the way this team is vet savvy..

anybody is an upgrade over Rock and Randle El in the return game...I would love to see Dorsey and especially Marko Mitchell make the team...I think Mason getsleft out again

..he's so much better than what we have behindPortis

well considering where our defense has finished the past 4 out of 5 seasons..with no pass rush, no sack numbers..Id like to think we can make samenoise this year defensively with what we have.
