PAYPAL/gift payment?

hey mates, so if i send someone a payment as a gift and something goes wrong can i dispute/claim or am i screwed?

please only answers of people who actually dealt with this before so i get a 100% clear answer.

YES, you are SCREWED. Why do you think a lot of these cats say gift payment only? If they get a gift payment they don't have to pay that 4% fee.
You can't dispute the payment because it's a "gift". Meaning you're gifting your money.
Paypal's buyer protection doesn't cover gift payments.

YES, you are SCREWED. Why do you think a lot of these cats say gift payment only? If they get a gift payment they don't have to pay that 4% fee.
You can't dispute the payment because it's a "gift". Meaning you're gifting your money.

exactly what Ginzo said. That is how a lot of people get scammed around here since they 'trust' the person they are sending the money to. Then they find out they got scammed and cannot do anything about since they sent it as a 'gift'. Just add the PP fee to the amount of money you are sending to the person and your good.

On the note of paypal. I just recently got scammed by an online seller for some jackets. Ordered two jackets, and the seller shipped only one cheap quality fake jacket. I filed a claim with paypal claiming the item was significantly not as described and that I paid for two and received one bad fake. They responded saying I am eligible for a refund but it may not be a full refund? With the terms that I send the jacket back to the seller, but I'm pretty sure no refund will even be issued until the seller notifies paypal that they recieved the package. Anyone deal with this issue before? I'm really thinking about trying a chargeback with my credit card company cause I'm thinking that might be less hastle than dealing with the shipping back of this garbage.

You'll have better luck doing a chargeback but your CC provider might tell you to refer back to Paypal to settle the dispute.
Once you ship the jacket back and it's confirmed that the seller got it then they'll issue you a refund but it will most likely be way less then what you bought it for.

This happened to me back in '07. I sent some seller $150. 4 weeks later no package.

I issue a dispute, a week later a claim.
Paypal got me back $32

paypal in a nutshell. if you send the payment as a gift you have no sort of protection if the deal goes bad. if your not that comfortable with the seller then either just cover the 4% fee yourself or don't do the deal.

when buying stuff it's best to buy with a credit card because in the case things go bad you can file a chargeback with your credit card company and most of the time you'll get your money back.

with a paypal claim most of the time even if the item isn't as described, as long as the seller posts tracking info they'll be covered. it's hit or miss with paypal claims.

 Ye I didn't really know if I should trust paypal cause like the dude posted above, they don't accommodate you at all. I think visa is the best way to go about it because I paid 300$ and don't want to get back something like 50$ in the claim resolution. On top of that they don't require the seller to cover any of the return shipping costs so you'll be out that money regardless.

i think starting in november they changed the rules off ebay, you are now covered for things SNAD. i got an email telling me that. before if you filed a claim outside of ebay for SNAD you would not get your money back or even a case to defend yourself.
