Real talk- send a gift only to friends and family

When doing a transaction on NT, ebay, or anything, you'll want to send as payment for goods and services. This provides buyer/seller protection. Of course, the seller will incur a fee, which I believe is $0.30 + 2.9% of the money being sent. The buyer will not incur any fees, so just a heads up for that.

Make sure to upload tracking info, etc onto Paypal Hope that helps and welcome to NT.

never get tracking/signature confirmation, just a waste of money

always ship to unconfirmed addresses, they should know their own address right?

1. Never send or receive as gift.

2. Always send to CONFIRMED/VERIFIED addresses ONLY.

3. Must use signature confirmation on payment over $225

You should be good to go.

i'd add no matter what, have some sort of tracking/delivery confirmation.

This thread needs to be stickied, for real.

I guess it depends on the rep. One rep told me 250, another 225. Its an extra 1.50 or something like that, so I dont risk it.

The general consensus is that GIFT payments don't have BUYER PROTECTION. But truth is, there isnt BUYER nor SELLER protection.

I learned this the hard way. Got scammed on 800 for DS South Beaches, but fortunately I was able to get my money back on my own. Paypal did absolutely NOTHING.

Here's a tip...NEVER leave funds in your paypal account. Once you receive payment, transfer it to your bank account right away. If a buyer tries to scam you and paypal rules within their favor, they can ONLY take available funds on your paypal balance. They can't dip into your bank account without your permission. This is another way to protect yourself as a seller.

Not if you're a new seller on eBay. Paypal holds your money for 21 days, so you need to hope that the buyer doesn't do anything fishy like a chargeback or scam you, because they'll take it.

I'm not so sure about this one. Insurance by shipping carriers only cover their mistakes, meaning If the package is lost or stolen. I dont know how they can protect you with paypal if the buyer decides to scam you.

Basically, its the SELLER'S responsiblity to make sure the buyer receives the item. So if the buyer files a claim against you citing they didnt receive the item, paypal will rule against you because you don't have signature confirmation. I'd transfer the funds right away just in case.
So you've never had any issues with chargebacks or something like that?
I have, but fortunately I was able to provide the shipping and tracking confirmations as well as emails.

Before you ship out, make sure you see a "seller protection" icon on the page or an "ok to ship" icon. You should be okay.

You're right. I personally havent had experience with this because I've used paypal for a while now. But some of my friends have had this issue. But this might just be an eBay thing, not sure if paypal does it for all transactions.

I transfer the funds as soon as i receive em. Had to throw my debit card on my paypal account though to raise my transfer limit. Will be taking it down later today though.

Incorrect.
I believe it was last year or the year before they made all users agree to a new policy. The new policy gives paypal the ability to go into your account with out your permission if your account is in the red for X amount of time.

Explain why its bad to receive payment as a gift? I received 1500 for rims once and was worried, but paypal said the buyer had no way to get the money back.

WRONG

It's illegal for them to dip into your account without your consent. If PayPal rules against you and you don't have any funds, you'll have a negative balance.

Like I said earlier..gift payments don't offer buyer nor seller protection.

PayPal won't refund you if you sent as gift, it is the bank accts/credit card companies that override PayPal to issue refunds and chargebacks. That's why it's crucial to select either bank acct or cc for purchases oppose to your PayPal balance.

At the end of the day your bank and cc company will fight for you. PayPal could give 2 pieces of doo doo about you.
